Locals will be familiar with this distinctive fairytale cottage that was, once upon a time a fully operational windmill.
Residents of The Hamptons communities along the east coast of Long Island in upstate New York know that the area once played host to a thriving agricultural community before the industrial age and many chose windmills as a way to power their farms.
A handful of homes in the area were also built with windmills as part of the main structure and are now listed as historic buildings and much coveted. Those that remain have a mixture of uses, from tourist attractions to guesthouses and private homes, whilst others stand simply as historical landmarks.

Built in the 1800’s, Amagansett’s Legendary Wind Mill house in East Hampton once hosted Marilyn Monroe and Arthur Miller for a weekend when they were married during the 1950s. Now available for rent, the newly renovated cottage is a pretty reminder of yesteryear.
