Trend to watch
In smoky greys, blues and even some sage green, the JAPANDI trend emerged this year. We think we’ll be seeing a lot more of the Japanese-meets-Scandinavian design in 2017.
The Bee's knees
Melbourne-based Beeline Design first caught our eye in the midst of the copper craze, when furniture maker Adam Brislin and partner Lucy Grant embellished their ‘Calypso’ timber stool with a fabulous glint of the rosy metal. The recent release of the firm’s ‘Cuba’ collection sees a sophisticated new direction, working with Tasmanian oak and leather to create an entire range that showcases craftsmanship. Shown here is the ‘Cuba’ Mirror Ladder Rack Trio - Visit beelinedesign.com.au
Poppy the potter
We’re big fans of Poppy Lane and Scott Gibson, aka Pop & Scott, here at HB. Individually creative (potter Poppy trained as a florist and Scott is a former plumber-turned- furniture maker), they started out selling Poppy’s pretty pots and designing and making furniture for themselves. Now, they have a showroom/studio in a former warehouse in Northcote, Vic, and recently opened a new store in Byron Bay, NSW. Visit popandscott.com
If we’re talking texture, 2016 was all about velvet. This high-end trend has travelled to the mid-market in record speed. Why? Because it’s just so gorgeous. The lustrous quality ignites saturated colour and the natural silk fibres bring the elegance. This Roar + Rabbit ‘Swivel’ chair in Dusty Blush can be found at westelm.com.au
Wool artist Grace Wood’s cushions, throws and wall hangings were a BIG hit in the HB office. You can read the Style Insight story here
The art director of Italian furniture company Moroso is renowned for collaborating with the world’s best emerging talent. During her visit to Australia, we spoke to the design doyenne about the brand and her top moments of 2016.
The home of Kylie Gillies
