After a positive response from customers since bringing the eclectic range into the store, furniture retail giant Matt Blatt has expanded the United Strangers collection of travel-inspired furniture and homewares to include console tables, desks, coffee tables, cabinets, armchairs and offbeat accessories crafted from unique materials.
It’s a little-known fact that the team behind the family-owned furniture giant Matt Blatt have been in the furniture business themselves for more than three decades, designing and making furniture - which is why they are so discerning about the quality of products they bring in to the store.
The team behind United Strangers is a dedicated group of artisans that form part of a “socially responsible design community” and the range is exclusively available in Australia through Matt Blatt’s showrooms and online. It centres on original, sustainable furniture inspired by salvaged and repurposed materials.
"Known for using unusual, recycled and organic materials, the new range will include key pieces such as a sofa crafted from military canvas, a marble dining table, a gorgeous green leather entertainment unit and a chunky timber coffee table and stool."Matt Blatt
On their website, Matt Blatt outlines the process behind the design and creation of many of the pieces in the range, from where timber, leather and raw materials are sourced, to the design and production process behind making the piece.
“This year we found inspiration in new raw materials, such as thick, vegetable-tanned leather which is processed with hand patinas, and our Italian marble, which we import in large slabs and then slice down to minimise waste. Much of our new Oslo range was inspired by recent travels to Europe, where we found the blonde timbers often used in architecture resonated well with our favoured materials and leathers – and we’re incredibly excited to share the results,” said United Strangers founder Logan Komorowski.
