Another way to regain usable bench space and storage is to replace some of your most-used items in the kitchen with smaller versions of themselves.
Here’s our top 3 to tackle:
1. Tiny chopping board
We all love a great big roomy chopping board but if it’s taking up all the available bench space, it's likely you work with half of your stuff stacked around the corners of the board anyway.
Downsize for a smaller, quality version to free up space around your prep area, take up less space in the sink and when stored away.
2. Tiny toaster
There are some seriously beautiful toasters on the market and we understand the attraction of a 4-slot marvel to cut down time in the breakfast queue each morning. Choosing a model for its streamlined size or better still, opting for a 2-slot toaster which has a significantly smaller footprint will free up space on your benchtop. A smaller unit may also allow you to pack the toaster away each morning after use, meaning you’ll gain much-needed space for lunch and dinner meal prep.
3. Tiny frying pan
If you’re always juggling pans on the cooktop, consider a small frying pan to make your job easier. Frying eggs, omelettes or onions before adding to a casserole will be much more efficient in a smaller pan. It’s also quicker as the heat is more concentrated over a smaller surface area. A cast iron pan will give a smoky grill touch to your steaks and sausages too so you’ll be able to do away with your seldom-used BBQ as bonus.
Choose a cute one you’ll want to hang above your stove and it’ll do double duty as décor, freeing up even more cupboard space!
