Take a swirl around the delightful details of this '50s home

The home’s vintage has played muse to the delightful design details inside.

Living room

A new fireplace with bricked hearth and a tiled flue brings the space together and acts as a striking backdrop for the rotating living works. Reclaimed glass pendants (for similar, try Beacon Lighting) in pastel pink and blue set the understated palette for the home’s retro modern feel. The hushed pink is mirrored on a cushion from Square Fox and a vase. A collection of Danish-designed furniture perfectly suits the home’s mid-century vibe (try Vampt Vintage Design for similar furnishings). Art is infused throughout the home, providing plenty of colour and texture. The George Nelson ‘Sunburst’ clock perfectly captures the home’s mid-century vibe, along with an alluring green painting by Allyson Reynolds.

Dining

Turning a picture window into a dining nook has saved space in this compact home and also integrated the dining space into the kitchen. Dangling from the ceiling is
a Xavier Lust ‘Pleat Box’ pendant light that matches the round custom-made table (for similar, try Freedom).

Kitchen

Anchoring the couple’s bright and airy kitchen is the island bench. With its elegant legs, it floats as a beautifully crafted piece of furniture, and adds to the artful angles seen throughout this striking space. The stunning benchtops in Brazilian granite paired with high-gloss mosaic tiles add an unexpected dramatic element. In trying to match the original handles of the ’50s bungalow, Paul found an odd assortment of handles and mismatched them on the joinery throughout.

Ensuite

The home’s original pastel pink fittings have been restored and reframed as stars in the ensuite. A Marc Newson Caroma showerhead with a riotous orange highlight gives the shower area its dose of personality, as does a pineapple mirror that was designed in conjunction with Push Architecture and cut by Zenith Lighting. Get the look of the tiles with ‘Mosaic’ tiles in White, Beaumont Tiles.
