Is there anything more glamorous than a walk-in wardrobe? Hardly. But there are a few things you need to keep in mind when creating a celebrity-worthy robe.
The number one mistake people make when installing a walk-in robe is not doing the legwork. “If you use a joiner to design and install, without spending time considering your own needs and requirements, they will usually give you a generic fitout,” says interior designer Sarah-Jayne Marriott. On the flipside, while customised storage is wonderful, you must consider that your clothes will change in the future. “Keep to a simple layout with not too many different-sized compartments – they look tidy in brochures, but in reality, they don’t allow for much flexibility,” warn designers Sonya Hammond and Ashleigh Edinburg of Madeleine Blanchfield Architects.
Utilise every inch of space – no one every complained about having too much storage – but make sure everything you use frequently is within easy reach; for example, placing rails at different heights is a great way to maximise storage space, but make sure you can actually reach the top rail!
