This is where you want to spend your winter holiday

All your lagom holiday dreams just came true
The Eastern Thredbo Village

Two sublime Scandi-inspired hideaways sit at the snowy base of Mount Kosciuszko, just waiting for you to arrive and snuggle in.

The brain child of Sydney based photographer, Monique Easton, a long-time skier and lover of design, the pair of accommodation properties were realised with a view to providing a memorable experience for guests, “not just a night’s sleep.”

“Both locations were chosen for their uninterrupted views of Mount Kosciuszko,” she says. “So guests can instantly connect with the landscape around them, unwind and rejuvenate.”

Oak apartment sleeps two and looks across a breathtaking view of the foothills of Mount Kosciuszko. Timber-lined floors and ceilings, white-washed walls and pared back interior design with exactly the right amount of snuggle ensure a simple, minimal, lagom experience.

“Part of visiting the mountains is all about getting out of the city, switching off and connecting with the landscape.”

The cedar cabin sits on the banks of the Thredbo River – also with sweeping views of Mount Kosciuszko enjoyed from a large daybed under a picture window. Originally built in the 90s and reworked with a “luxe-meets-camping story” by Monique in collaboration with Sydney-based designer Nicholas Gurney, the project was shortlisted for the Australian Interior Design Awards(AIDA).

“It feels like you’re sleeping in a tree house, it’s all the cabin vibes you need when looking for a mountain getaway.”

Monique says she wanted to stay true to the original layout and flow of the spaces and let the original features guide the style of the new interiors – rough and textural – to add to the outdoorsy cabin experience.

“We took cues from the surrounding environment, keeping the colour palette muted, emphasising the clean lines and making the view the focal point of the cabin,” Monique says. “We used robust, industrial materials manipulated with gentle precision deliver a gender-neutral aesthetic equally suited to some mates and their mountain bikes or a group of girlfriends on a ski weekend.” Genius design that delivers in snow-covered spades.

“I find the mountain environment to be very calming, the fresh mountain air, snow-capped hills and the flowing river”.

Both properties are artfully designed with a refined Scandinavian aesthetic and both are the epitome of the cabin you’d build yourself in the snow if you had the time, the money and the real estate prowess. More than that however, it’s the heart and passion of minimalist design experienced in each space that feeds the soul – details such as a mixture of Scandinavian carry lamps and Australian bush rimmed crockery that offer a luxurious Japanese Onsen experience for two.
