We talk to Bruce Summers, Country Road’s design manager, about the new pieces you’ll want in your home.
Can you tell us what inspired the new spring collection for Country Road?
The changing season and our surroundings were the key inspiration for our new collection. Colour, key textures, pattern and form were drawn from local sources, with a focus on our environment and in particular Australian native flora.
For colour, the beautiful lilac and dusty purple tones of varieties of eucalypt were our inspiration through spring and continuing into summer. Texturally, we looked to a key trend in Australian architecture in the ’50s and ’60s, reeded glass, which has recently made a comeback. The visual and tactile linear texture has been carried across the table top and even into textiles.
What colours are big for spring this year?
It doesn’t seem to want to got away, but pink tones continue to be big particularly for spring. We have nodded to this trend with the dusty purple, lilac and quartz tones which are really new and also pair beautifully with a variety of other colours. Green is also really coming through.
What are your favourite pieces from the new collection?
A few standouts for me include the new additions to our Nomi furniture collection, the ladder shelf and mirror in particular, as well as the Jeda freestanding picture frame, which is a totally new concept!
The Dalla throws and Laim cushions are amazing as they combine a boucle yarn with a standard yarn in the weave which gives it a beautiful texture.
Also, our Lalia wooden serving range is incredible – the hand crafted oak boards feature the thickest profile we have ever done – and the curved form is so tactile as well as visually beautiful. We are also launching a new kitchen accessory range later in the season which is really great.
What’s the one classic piece from the new collection every home should have?
Every home should have one of our Nully leather storage baskets. They are not only beautifully crafted from a single piece of leather, the form is timeless and the design is ingenious, meaning it doesn’t require any glues or stitching to hold its shape. Made from high quality leather it will last a lifetime and only get better with age. It is also multipurpose and can be used just as a decorative piece or functionally to hold magazines, in the bathroom to hold hand towels or as a storage basket. I don’t think home organisation has ever looked so good.
The new Country Road spring collection will be arriving in store and online in July.
