Spurred on by the challenge to send his own kids to school with a plate to share, this kids’ party food hack by the lawyer-turned-chef, Masterchef winner and HB celebrity home alumnus Adam Liaw is a game-changer for school cake days, birthday parties and school holiday fun.
With a school deadline approaching Adam was determined to come up with a quick and easy recipe to crack the age-old problem of last minute “bring a plate” quandary. “I am going to write a recipe for something that you can make 25 portions of in 5 minutes that an keep unrefrigerated for 8 hours and contains no dairy, nuts or eggs,” Adam said on his Twitter feed as he began to tackle the issue, adding “I don’t know what it is yet but I will make it work for the good of us all.”
What a heroic endeavour!
As the problem unfolded, more obstacles appeared; “It will also fit in a standard Tupperware, cost less than $10 in ingredients, weigh less than 1kg for transport, and be able to survive a bus ride in a school backpack without destroying its integrity.”
“I GOT YOU ON THIS PARENTS.”

“This is just 3 ingredients, $7 and the whole lot can fit in a school backpack at less than 400g (including the container),” said Adam sharing of his genius idea on his Instagram feed
Adam goes on to give step-by-step instructions (only two steps though!) and offer several design options which is probably just as well since we agree with one of his followers that, “Next school party there’s going to be 20 containers of fat pocky 🤣🤣🤣”
Here’s the recipe:
Fat pocky
Ingredients:
One pack of breadsticks (grissini)
375g dark chocolate
Coloured sprinkles
Method:
- Melt the chocolate in the microwave
- Put chocolate in a cup, dip and sprinkle
