Nick Rennie is the Australian designer for Ligne Roset. Here, he talks to us about the latest collection for the French design brand at DOMO.
Tell us a little about Ligne Roset’s latest products.
The latest collection continues Ligne Roset’s ambition to create beautiful, comfortable and elegant products in a mix of luxurious materials. Incredible fabrics mixed with marble and woods are very much at the front of the new products available from DOMO.
For me personally, the launch of my Softly sofa (see top) in Australia is very exciting. First shown here at Denfair last month, it is now in every DOMO showroom in Australia, and the response has been fantastic.
What design trends do you predict for 2017/18?
Locally, I feel a huge movement toward supporting “original” over “fake” design, which is the most important thing facing us in the industry here in Australia.
It is also wonderful to see the amazing products being produced by the current generation of local designers.
What changes have you seen over the past few years?
There has been a real focus on minimising the footprint of manufacturing to create objects that are both beautiful, practical and yet kinder to the environment in both their production and materiality. This is also a move away from instant gratification and back towards creating products that are meant to last a lifetime, rather than just becoming junk within five years. To me this is the essence of good design.
What is your favourite product from the collection?
I have to say I’m a little bit biased, but it would have to be my Softly sofa. available in either a three-seater or two-seater version, as well as a sofa bed. So it’s an incredibly exciting project.
