“I have to say, I love a good appliance!” says Martin Boetz, straight off the mark. The Cooks Co-op chef and star of HBTV ‘s web-series of the same name is put to the challenge of identifying his top three must-have small appliances in episode six of the food-focused series. With the mission to make your time in the kitchen the most efficient and even more enjoyable, here are Marty’s recommendations.

Must-have kitchen appliances

1. Stand mixer

Sitting at the top of chef Martin Boetz’s must-have list, a versatile benchtop mixer will be your right-hand man in the kitchen. Marty suggests you look for a machine that has loads of attachments to suit your culinary needs. “You can get mincers, you can get sausage makers – [there are] so many things that you can add on, to make so many things in the kitchen” he says. Psst… Choose a mixer in a colour that you love and leave it on show – you’ll never want to hide it away in a cupboard!

2. Vacuum food sealer

If you’re guilty of over-catering from time-to-time or if you love to prepare meals for you or your crew in advance, a vacuum food sealer is right up your alley. With a range of bag sizes, from small through to large, Marty recommends that you use a vacuum food sealer to package up meals or leftovers, and to “keep things for up to two weeks in the refrigerator or up to six months in the freezer”.

3. Hand blender

Ideal for whipping cream, prepping cake batter or pureeing soup in the pot, hand mixers are a quick go-to option for a wide range of jobs in your kitchen. Marty comments that “you can blend spices, which I’m often doing at home; blending spices to rub on meat”. You’ll also love a hand mixer for its quick-to-clean attributes. Less washing up? Yes, please!
