This amazing window turns into a balcony!

Think you can’t have a balcony off your rooftop bedroom? Think again.

We’re always trying to maximise space in our homes and often look to using our internal roof space to make the most of every inch.

Old houses in particular boast enormous roof cavities that present lofty possibilities of additional bedrooms, home office, or play areas, depending on the scale.

Living in a loft space can be cramped however and the need for natural light, air circulation and adequate ventilation is essential when designing your loft space.

Incorporating a split panel floor-to ceiling window, the Velux Cabrio balcony folds out to open into a full balcony in seconds: the top panel swinging outwards on top-hung hinges to create a cover and the bottom section unfolds into a glazed balcony with side railings.

Here’s one that’s been installed by Patryn Woodworks in the US.

The top half opens like a traditional awning window so you can enjoy the benefits of a push-out roof window, drop the balcony down, or simply open the ventilation flap at the top.

The panels close up to seal tight.
