Survive the cold with these velvety-soft flannelette sheets

A winter bedding must-have.

Aren’t flannelette sheets just the best? Australia’s hot climate may see airy linen bedding and silky bamboo reign supreme for most of the year, but there’s nothing quite like relenting to the soft, snuggly embrace of brushed cotton sheets after long, cold winter’s day.

Flannelette (not to be confused with flannel) is made from 100% cotton that has been brushed on both sides to create that famous fuzzy texture that feels so cosy to sleep in. The brushing process, Sheridan claims, also creates small pockets of air inside the fabric that trap heat and provide insulation. Feeling warmer already?

Choosing the best flannelette sheets for you will depend on a number of factors. Flannelette sheets with a higher weight (GSM) are often considered the best quality, for example, but if you’re a hot sleeper you may find the additional weight stifling, rather than soothing. No matter whether you buy lightweight or heavier flannelette sheets, if you wsh and care for them correctly, they should last for years to come.

How to care for flannelette bed sheets

It’s best to treat flannelette bed sheets with care to prevent unnecessary wear and pilling. Always follow the care instructions on the label, but to be on the safe side, wash on a cool, gentle setting using a mild detergent. Rinse again (this will prevent product building up on the fibres which, over time, can make them feel waxy and scratchy) before air drying, or tumble drying on low.
