Who doesn’t love porridge for breakfast in winter?
A bowl of steaming oats placed in on the table in winter is the stuff of life and there are few households that don’t partake of its hearty goodness some time during the colder months, to fuel everyone's engine for the day ahead.
Reinvented time and again in guises anywhere from a quick breakfast of convenience or a nourishing and nutritious source of energy, to a simple, portable meal-in-a-bowl, porridge has lately become a food fashion statement in its own right.
Cafes everywhere are serving up mouth-watering bowls of goodness – from oats to ancient grains through roasted nuts, poached fruit and hitherto unknown breakfast toppings. Foodies everywhere are embracing the concept and recreating the same goodness at home.
With her latest book, “The New Porridge” nutrition and natural food expert, Leah Vanderveldt says she owes her newfound productivity to porridge – and has taken things up another notch to celebrate her love with an entire book filled with “grain-based nutrition bowls for morning, noon and night.”
