Ever had that feeling that you're missing out on all the good stuff?
There are plenty of people who seem to rake in the goods from roadside finds, Gumtree, eBay and the local Facebook Swap and Sell group. Some people seem to have all the luck… but just how much luck is involved?
The secrets to finding the best homewares online stem from a right way and a wrong way to score bargains. With the following tips, hopefully, your fabulous finds will come closer together and before you know it, you'll be surrounded by things you love – bought for a song!
1. Check regularly
Bookmark your favourite sites, such as Gumtree, Greys online and local Facebook selling groups. Regularity is key here - often nothing will spark your interest but with regular checks, you'll stay across the market. Check in with these daily if possible but always at the same time - so you don't miss new items as they are listed.
2. Show your interest
If you’re super keen on an item and simply must have it, even if the price is way above your budget, it's often a good idea to contact the seller and advise of your interest. This opens a line of communication that you can follow up on down the track.
3. Follow up
Keep an eye on your item as the sale progresses. Be patient, however - if you don't see it listed as sold but the listing disappears, you may be able to contact the seller to enquire and renew your offer.
4. Act quickly
This cannot be overstated. Commit to the sale and make arrangements to get the cash immediately and arrange to pick up the piece asap - the same day if possible. Sellers generally prefer to offload a piece as soon as it goes up online and the general rule is “first come, first serve,” so be ready to pounce!
5. Share the love
If you have friends or family who also love a bargain - particularly if you're both interested in homewares, swap notes! Let them know what you're looking for and keep their wishlist in mind as you routinely do your own searches. Many hands make light work…
