In a Florida coastal town where sandy beaches meet Southern charm, this home unfolds like it was plucked from a painting. Take inspiration from its interiors to infuse a feeling of languorous ease into your own space.

Breezy, effortless and never theme-y – this is the vision interior decorator and textile designer Heather Chadduck Hillegas of Heather Chadduck Interiors & Textiles brought to life in this Florida holiday home. “I used natural textures, unfussy finishes and a palette that nods to the beach without ever shouting ‘beach house’,” she explains.

Working alongside architect Jim Strickland from Historical Concepts, Heather embraced a coastal style that feels fresh and perfectly translatable to Australian homes. In this space, a Roman blind in Quadrille’s ‘New Batik’ fabric in Cloud New Brown on Tint dresses the window, adding a subtle pattern that reinforces the home’s understated mood.

FOLLOW THE SUN
“We treated the porch like another living space because the homeowners actually use it that way,” says Heather.

“It gets great light and stays comfortable most of the year, so it made sense to give it the same attention as the interior spaces.” Shutters in Benjamin Moore Narragansett Green enhance privacy, while Perennials ‘Vintage Stripe’ fabric in Lagoon curtains soften the space, along with floral cushions. “The goal was for it to feel connected to the house, not like an afterthought, and to make it a spot they’d naturally drift to and from throughout the day.

REEF SEEKER
Like diving into a richly layered underwater world, the living room reveals something in every corner and crevice – much like the rest of the house. “We mixed in natural textures like rattan, woven pieces and simple wood tones so the spaces stay warm and easy, not too polished,” explains Heather. “Pattern shows up in many rooms, mostly through pillows, rugs and fabrics, while white slipcovers and white walls are the base layer of the house.”

Tent-flap curtains in Schumacher ‘Katsugi’ fabric in Blues evoke the feel of camping by the ocean, over woven blinds handmade in India.

PARADISE FOUND
Close your eyes and step into this guest bedroom and you might wake thinking you’ve landed in a beautiful shipwreck washed ashore. It’s a dream summer sleep space, where a Caribbean-inspired mix of coral, leafy motifs and warm island tones weave with ever-present ocean blues.

“The whole house follows a blue-and-white palette, which keeps everything feeling calm and consistent from room to room,” shares Heather. “Blue and white is my default setting… I never stray too far. And I’m an unapologetic frond-lover – they sneak into almost every project, especially ones by the beach.”
