The Three Birds’ latest renovation! We reveal the stunning backyard.

This Three Birds’ outdoor transformation is one of their best makeovers yet.

This week we wrap up our exclusive house tour of Three Birds Renovations brand new project by heading outside. Cue the pool party – this backyard is an entertainer’s dream. There is a space for barbecues and a bar for chats over glasses of wine, a dining space under a pergola, firepit and a daybed by the pool designed with reading and cups of tea in mind. There’s even a basketball court tucked around the corner.

“A good outdoor space is all about zones,” says Three Birds co-founder and creative director Bonnie Hindmarsh, who created the space for a family with three kids. “Our clients really enjoy life and we wanted to honour that, designing all those outdoors areas a family needs.”

From the house, a gas-strut window opens to a small but effective bar where the adults can enjoy a nice wine. The pivoting window is a signature Three Bird’s move. Bonnie says, “We love a gas-strut because you can push it open and get a full clear view without losing any elbow room, which can happen with bifold windows.”

Encaustic tiles in Middleton Beach from Tile Cloud steal the scene on the alfresco dining area. “We wanted to add detail and a tile was perfect way to do it,” says Bonnie. The dining table, chairs and benches are all from Freedom. Bonnie loves mixing chairs with bench seating in a family scenario. “You can shove 4000 children on a bench and the adults can have more comfortable rattan chairs,” she says.

The deck is low-maintenance HardieDeck from James Hardie, surrounded by newly constructed Modular Walls. To visually “extend” the house, the trio always like to paint their screening walls using the same colour as the house, in this case Dulux Grey Pail. The new pool was built by by Concept Pools and uses a glass bead interior to achieve that perfect, pale blue, beach colour.

Homeowner, Aimee is thrilled by her new outdoor space. She says, “We will be spending most of the year out there.”
