Maintaining spotless floors can instantly elevate a home, yet the act of vacuuming is one of the most demanding parts of daily upkeep. From high-traffic hallways to crumbs that seem to appear moments after you have cleaned, it doesn’t take much for floors to lose their shine. And when you’re constantly unplugging and plugging in power cords (that are always too short), the task quickly becomes more frustrating than satisfying. The solution? A lightweight, cordless stick vacuum.
Beautifully designed and far more powerful than their predecessors, the new wave of stick vacuums is made to handle the realities of busy homes without compromising on style or ease. Oddly enough, my own obsession with these smart gadgets started just a few months back, when my neighbour tossed out an old (but fully operational) Dyson stick vacuum. With their nod of approval, I took it in, and my cleaning routine has been transformed ever since; in fact, I now use it more than I do my robot vacuum.
So, if you, too, want to cut hours off your cleaning routine, it’s about time you met the stick vacuums that rise to the challenge, making everyday cleaning feel a little less like a chore and a whole lot more satisfying.
Where to find top stick vacuums for less – and what to watch out for this July
Editor’s Tip: For low-effort cleaning and spotless floors, pair your new stick vacuum with a robot vacuum; the robot takes care of daily maintenance, and you tackle the finishing touches.
The reason I opted for an old Dyson rather than a new release comes down to pricing; stick vacuums can range from the low hundreds to over $1,000, making them a little tricky to justify at full price. However, going in with a better understanding of what your investment can get you goes a long way.

Dyson V11 Handstick Vacuum Cleaner
$403 at JB HI-FI
Best for: a signature Dyson vacuum under $500
If you’re after Dyson performance without paying flagship prices, the Dyson V11 Advanced hits the sweet spot. Delivering up to 60 minutes of runtime and 60 per cent more suction than the Dyson V8, it’s a powerful all-rounder for everyday cleaning.
“Vacuuming used to be my least favourite chore, but finding a stick vacuum that fits in a tiny cupboard without compromising on suction makes the task a lot easier to tolerate. I picked up a Dyson V11 a few months ago, and I’ve never been happier with a cleaning product; a quick once over of the house takes less than 10 minutes and picks up all the bits my robot vacuum used to leave behind.”
Paris Blanchfield, Shopping Editor
While this is quite an old model from Dyson’s innovative vacuum range, hence why it’s so hard to track down on the Dyson site, there’s truth to the saying ‘if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.’ The V11 is an all-rounder, and it does everything you need a stick vacuum to do; it just doesn’t have all the bells and whistles of their newer technology (but, if we’re being honest, do you need them?).

Shark Stratos Cordless Pet Pro Vacuum with Clean Sense IQ
$483.53 at Amazon
Best for: allergy sufferers and pet owners
The Shark Stratos Cordless Pet Pro is a well-engineered, mid-tier workhorse that gives premium brands a serious run for their money this EOFY. It comes packed with intelligent Clean Sense IQ technology, utilising an infrared sensor that detects microscopic, invisible dirt and automatically ramps up suction power for up to 50% better debris pickup.
Pet owners will particularly love the Anti Hair Wrap Plus brush roll (the key feature that landed it on my own wishlist), which actively clears tightly wound hair from the roller as you vacuum. Add in the integrated Odour Neutraliser cartridge that stops stale pet dander smells from exhausting back into your home and the generous 60-minute runtime, and it’s really a pet owner’s dream.
Carrying a standard RRP of $999, Prime Day promotions have absolutely decimated its price tag, bringing it down to an incredible $424 at Amazon Australia; an even bigger discount than we saw during EOFY.

Bespoke AI Jet Lite Complete 280W
$1,399 at Samsung
Best for: easy maintenance & an ergonomic design
The Samsung Bespoke AI Jet Lite 280W is a masterclass in blending high-end interior aesthetics with brute cleaning force. Dressed in a sophisticated Santorini Beige finish (that completely moves away from the bright, clinical plastic we’re used to), this premium stick vacuum generates a staggering 280W of suction power using Samsung’s ultra-efficient HexaJet motor.
It relies on advanced AI Cleaning Mode 2.0 via the SmartThings app, which intuitively senses changes in floor types and dynamically adjusts brush roll speed and suction to maximise battery efficiency. Once your cleaning session is done, you simply dock it into the integrated clean station, which automatically uses pressurised air pulse technology to empty the dustbin into a sealed bag, entirely preventing dust clouds from escaping back into your home.
Though it carries a regular retail price of $1,399, early EOFY inventory clear-outs have sliced its price tag significantly, allowing you to secure this luxury package from just $999 when you shop directly from Samsung (which I highly recommend doing for the best possible price).

Dreame Z30 Station Stick Vacuum and Dock
$499 at Bing Lee
Best for: busy households & tech enthusiasts
As a Dreame owner myself, I’m particularly fond of the Dreame Z30 Station Cordless Stick Vacuum: an innovative, high-tech stick vacuum that appeals to passionate homemakers and tech enthusiasts alike. This model dominates on sheer power, packing an industry-leading 310 Air Watts of suction via a 150,000 RPM turbo motor, while a heavy-duty battery provides an incredible 90 minutes of fade-free runtime on Eco mode, making it perfect for large homes.
What’s more, this clever unit is equipped with CelesTect blue LED light technology on its interchangeable brushes to cast a sharp, wide beam that exposes microscopic hidden dust on hard floors, alongside a smart sensor that dynamically shifts suction levels based on real-time dirt detection. LG CordZero Handstick Vacuum with All-in-One Tower
$1,399 at LG
Best for: small apartments & design-conscious homeowners
The LG CordZero A9X Auto-Empty Handstick seamlessly marries minimalist, freestanding design with high-end convenience, making it a stellar premium candidate for EOFY deal-hunting. It features an incredibly sleek, self-contained All-in-One Tower that serves as a charging base, accessory storage station, and an automated dust-emptying hub that clears out the vacuum’s bin into a sealed 2.5L bag to completely eliminate airborne dust clouds.
At just 2.9kg, it punches well above its weight class with a powerful 280W of suction, and utilises built-in Kompressor technology to physically compress dirt inside the chamber so you can clean longer between empty cycles. Dyson PencilVac Fluffycones Cleaner
$949.00 at Dyson
Best for: small apartments & easy maneuverability
The groundbreaking Dyson PencilVac Fluffycones, Dyson’s newest, slimmest engineering marvel, is the easiest-to-use stick vacuum of this tax season. Moving entirely away from bulky traditional stick designs, this hyper-maneuverable, 1.8kg machine packs its entire motor and battery into a pencil-thin 38mm handle that feels virtually weightless as it glides on air-cushioned caster wheels (trust me, I’ve tested it myself).
The star of the show is the Fluffycones cleaner head, which utilises four counter-rotating, conical soft brush bars to continuously strip and lift long hair directly into the suction stream, ensuring zero hair wrap while sweeping dirt right up to the edges of your baseboards. It features dual-direction LED illumination to expose hidden dust, whether you push or pull, alongside a clever syringe-action bin compression system that pushes fine dust deep into your waste bin to stop messy airborne plumes. While its compact four-cell battery caps runtime at a swift 30 minutes, this architectural beauty is built for quick, frictionless daily maintenance.

An expert guide to stick vacuum shopping
When it comes to selecting the right robot vacuum for you, it can be challenging to distinguish which features matter and which don’t, even for those of us who have been combing the market for months. That’s why I enlisted the help of Dreame’s ANZ Category Manager, Patrick Wang, an expert in all things robot vacuum related.
A stick vacuum is a lightweight and compact cleaning tool with a handheld unit and a long body. Their design makes them much more comfortable to use and considerably cuts down cleaning time due to increased maneuverability and their ergonomic designs (compared to standard models).
Many, but not all, stick vacuums are cordless, and some have self-emptying stations that further simplify one’s floor maintenance routines.
Stick vacuums are compact, portable, versatile, and more comfortable to operate than older vacuum models. They’re great for anyone who wants to simplify their cleaning routine and those who experience back pain when trying to operate standard, heavy vacuums.
For those who prioritise ease, versatility, and speed, stick vacuums are likely the better option, whereas those who are after a deeper clean may want to opt for a larger, more powerful model.
The most important features to look for when shopping for a stick vacuum are suction power, long battery life, maneuverability, and HEPA filtration. Those looking for advanced, high-end models may also want to consider features such as self-emptying docks and dust-detecting lasers.
A suction level of 200 air watts (AW) or higher is generally regarded as sufficient for an effective clean. However, the level of suction power needed for an effective clean can depend on the type of surfaces you’ll be cleaning. For hardwood floors and tiles, look for models above 100-150 air watts, and for carpets, aim for suction levels above 200 (and detangling technology).
