Summer at home: The art of the seasonal refresh

The simple ways to reinvigorate your home.

Transforming your home throughout the seasons can feel a lot like chasing trends. Finding pieces that fit your design aesthetic is just as important as curating that seasonal reinvention.

Most importantly, your seasonal refresh is all about presence in the space. Creating an environment that reflects the way the season makes you feel. Choosing pieces that bring ease, warmth and clarity will allow you to feel supported and renewed.

These small changes can create a meaningful shift in how you view your home. And fortunately, you can make that transformation without the need for a renovation. Some simple seasonal swaps that make a big impact come from a few easy changes in your living and dining areas.

Sands framed print in 84 x 84cm, $549. Harry ottoman in Cobble Linen, $699. Skye designer chair in Honey Brown Rattan, $699. Lupe sculpture in Natural, $109.95. Haven Aliya rug 240x330cm in Rust, $889

Each season brings its own mood, whether that be the bright, joyous atmosphere of summer or the moody comfort that winter delivers. So, understandably, we want our home decor to match the mood.

Fortunately, curating your seasonal space doesn’t need to involve any major renovations and can be done by making small, thoughtful changes, with high-quality pieces at affordable prices.

Focus on textures

Making meaningful seasonal changes within the home doesn’t have to mean starting over. It’s important to add intentionally, so take the time to consider what you already have and how you can simply rebalance those items to refresh your space.

Lift heavy tones with warm neutrals and invite softness through texture and light. In practicality, this looks like swapping out your cosy velvet cushions for lightweight, bright options and packing away the heavy winter blanket for a cooler linen throw.

For decor pieces, natural materials lend themselves to feeling light and airy. A simple swap can be changing over your artwork; not only can it help shift the light in a room, but it can also have a huge impact on how you feel within the space.

Make your outdoor-indoor spaces flow

The summer season is all about entertaining and making the most of the warmer weather. Utilising your outdoor entertaining area is a summer staple, and adding in small design touches such as vases and sculptural elements helps to make the space feel more lived in.

An easy way to carry the outside in is with cohesive plant options. Choose pots and plants that work as well for your outdoor areas as they do your indoor spaces.

For open-plan living spaces that rely on indoor dining areas, refresh your dining setting with rugs and chairs in natural materials to tie it into your outdoor living area. Plus, don’t forget to add a few new key table wear pieces to finish off your summer reset.
