Home sweet home
Guy Grossi is spoilt for cooking choice in the eastern Melbourne home he shares with his wife, Melissa, and grown-up children, Carlo and Loredana. Inside is an expansive kitchen that, despite the TV chef and author’s cooking pedigree, is a space for the entire family. “The kids both love cooking,” says Guy. “It’s part of their DNA. It’s what we do.”
Pizza oven
In the garden is a wood-fired oven where Guy whips up pizzas using herbs picked from his vegie patch.
Kitchen delight
With its extensive stainless-steel benchtops and dramatic marble splashback, this renovated kitchen could feature in any of Guy’s award-winning restaurants. And the acclaimed chef’s kitchen must-have? A copper pot that sits in a shelf over the Lacanche cooker; “It has a really thick base and just cooks so easily,” says Guy.
Living room
This is another spot where the Grossis love to relax. “Sometimes when I’ve been at work all day, I like nothing more than ordering a pizza and watching TV!” says Guy of the soothing space, decorated by his wife – and serial stylist – Melissa. “In a few months the rooms might look different,” she says. “I’ll change the wall colours or scatter cushions for a new look.”
Garden
During the warmer months, the family’s entertaining moves to the outdoor kitchen and pizza oven, which are neatly nestled between the pool and Guy’s go-to kitchen garden. “Cooking outside is fabulous, it’s so much fun,” he says. It also gives this busy chef a chance to step away from the burners. “Guests always want to join in and have a crack at putting a pizza into the oven!”
