We can never have enough storage in our kitchen – here are a few cheeky ideas for how to squeeze more in.
Storage is key in keeping your home clutter-free and making each room work efficiently. Maximum use of space is essential and, whether built-in, freestanding or retro-fitted, you may be surprised at just how much space can be gained by going that extra mile towards fitting in a little more storage here and there.
1. Cleverly concealed kitchen appliances

Consider a hidey-hole for everyday appliances that are large and unwieldy but used every day. Blenders, toasters, coffee machines and the like are often essential to kick-start your morning, however, lining them up on your benchtop leaves little space for anything else.
2. Integrated kitchen cabinetry

Integrated cabinetry can conceal anything from dishwashers and fridges to bins and butler’s pantries, minimising both physical and visual clutter in your kitchen space. Making the cabinetry floor-to-ceiling height can also maximise storage opportunities by making the most of what would otherwise be unused verticle space.
3. Charming vintage plate racks

A small kitchen needs clever storage for often-used items and vintage-style open dish racks offer the perfect solution. Freeing up space from drawers and cupboards for other kitchen items, open dish racks add both storage and charm to any kitchen. Having additional cupboards below and less close to hand can then be reserved for mismatched and larger items.
4. Hardworking kitchen island hub

A well-designed kitchen island will serve multiple functions efficiently, providing space for food preparation, sinks, storage, appliances and even casual seating. Aesthetically, a kitchen island is often the feature to elevate your entire kitchen, making them both pretty and practical options.
5. Above- and under-bench storage

Both above and under-bench storage can help keep your kitchen organised but knowing how to use each storage options effectively is key.
While under bench storage is perfect for crockery and baking dishes, you can also use jugs and vases on your benchtop to store kitchen utensils and cutlery. Benchtop baskets also add a little natural colour and texture whil providing homes for pantry staples, kitchen linens and certain food, such as fruit and bread. Overhead shelving is also great for displaying your favourite serving platters and cake stands, as well as artworks and other more aesthetic kitchen tools.
