Inside Kerrie Hess’s fabulous home studio

The beautiful workspace of fashion's favourite illustrator
John Downs

A move back to her home town of Brisbane hasn’t slowed down illustrator Kerrie Hess – her client list includes Christian Louboutin and Kate Spade New York. Kerrie works from home in a Queenslander decorated in her signature French-inspired style. “The inspiration for my office palette of grey, pink and white was the flagship Dior boutique in Paris, and I added the gold accents for a sprinkle of whimsy,” says Kerrie.

What are your office must-haves? “I love flowers and quite a bit of colour. Being an artist, it’s nice for me to be surrounded by art. You’re more excited to get to work if you love your office.”

Your wishlist? “I’m obsessed with gold so I have my eye on a few accent pieces from West Elm, as well as vintage grey Louis-style chairs.”

Tips for creating a gallery wall like yours? “I sourced the frames first, printed the images to size and spray-painted the frames gold – I couldn’t find gold ones in the size that I wanted. A gallery wall can be created with 12 frames (as in my space), nine, six or even just three.”

Like Kerrie’s style? We’ve found four great office accessories to get the look.

1. ‘ Förhöja’ birch letter tray, $24.99, Ikea.

2. ‘Foxed Mirror’ in-tray, $79, West Elm.

3. ‘Hunter’ metal magazine basket, $109.95, Amalfi.

4. Kate Spade acrylic letter tray in Gold, $75, Papier D’Amour.
