Block alum turned full-time renovators, Kyal and Kara Demmrich, are powering through their latest renovation. They’re extending and making over a double-storey brick house in their home suburb of Shelly Beach on NSW’s Central Coast.
The couple has revealed exclusively to Home Beautiful that they will put the home on the market this spring. “It would be so amazing if our buyer was someone who was following the renovation from the beginning,” enthuses Kara.
Documenting their renovations on social media has had a lot of positives for the savvy pair. Beyond crowdsourcing opinions for decisions (although they’re always “pretty confident” in their own vision), connecting with an engaged community has allowed them to get major building brand collaborators on board. It’s also helped them find future owners for their projects.
“Having an audience has meant we’ve been able to partner with some dream brands,” Kara explains, adding, “The exposure has also helped us find buyers for projects we’re selling.”

Design plans: Kyal and Kara’s Grandview project
Named the Grandview project, the couple revealed their design plans for the home. Stepping away from their usual light and bright aesthetic, Kyal and Kara are planning to lean into darker timbers and tones. “It’s going to be really moody but still within our coastal style,” they shared in an Instagram reel.
Previous project success stories include their Bay Builds duplex, which saw them build side-by-side homes on the New South Wales central coast and take away more than $5 million with the sale of both properties.
This time, Kyal and Kara are going back to their renovating roots and transforming a home brimming with potential – but only after a lengthy hunt for a property that ticked all of the boxes for the renovation pros.
Kyal and Kara shared the news of their renovation on Instagram in November 2025, writing: “After 12 months of searching (and a couple we’ve missed), we’ve finally found the one. This home has the most incredible bones, and we can’t wait to breathe new life into her.”
“We were very specific about what we were after this time around: a home close to the water, in a location we could imagine ourselves living, and great bones for us to work with,” the couple wrote on their blog page, announcing the project.
Since then, the couple have shared some of their plans for the home. Along with the moody palette, the transformation involves pushing out the front and back walls, extending the decks and creating a large open-plan living, dining and kitchen area.
Along with plenty of new designs, Kyal and Kara have shared that they’re keen to preserve and work with the home’s best features – including the high ceilings and windows framing the view. They’re also planning to keep the existing pool but warn their viewers that their plans may “evolve” as the renovation gets underway.

The couple could see potential in the original home, with brick walls inside and out, exposed beams across the interior ceilings and plenty of dated carpet and floor tiles that are ripe for being replaced.
The ‘before’ images reveal why this was such a perfect property to be flipped by the couple.
