The Block houses 2024 are shaping up to be bigger, better and beachier than ever. After launching in 2003, The Block has hit its 20th season. The Australian renovating series has turned many of its teams into household names, and The Block 2024 contestants are no exception. Set on Phillip Island in Victoria, they’ve been tasked with turning nine dated cabins at Island Cove Villas in Cowes into five supersized, Julian Brenchley-designed holiday homes.

The suburb’s median house price is $774,000, but price guides for The Block’s yet-to-be-completed houses have already been set at $1.7-$1.9 million. That’s a million dollars more than the going rate for the area. While that sounds ambitious, the majority of The Block houses 2023 sold in the multi-millions, with the winning home going for $5 million.

There have been strong room designs from week one, with a divisive black aesthetic by Kylie and Brad getting judges Shaynna Blaze, Darren Palmer and Marty Fox fiercely debating. We’ve seen the Coastal Grandma interior trend cemented in the zeitgeist by Paige and Jesse, while Courtney and Grant invented an entirely new nickname for their design style: Moditerranean (short for Modern Mediterranean).

Signs of some early frontrunners got us asking, ‘Do we already know who’s going to win The Block Island?’ Meanwhile, there was a special guest appearance by 2023 winners Steph and Gian, who shared advice on how to win The Block in 2024. As shown by previous team experiences, such as All Stars Dan and Dani (who now have a baby on the way), anything can happen on auction day.

This recently-married couple is setting the bar high, with an elevated coastal style that has had this team on a winning streak. Oceanic emeralds and tactile materials echo the island’s natural elements. This holiday house is shaping up to be a nautical delight.

With a background in furniture design and landscaping, this couple is a force to be reckoned with. Their Modern Mediterranean escape is a medley of majestic marble, Venetian plaster, travertine tiles and American oak.

Paige and Jesse’s house / Maddy and Charlotte’s house

Classic meets contemporary in this soothing coastal home. It began with original The Block team Jesse and Paige who left after four weeks, before being taken over by Sydney sisters Maddy and Charlotte.

The headstrong parents-of-four brought their taste for black and white to the island. Dark meets light, plus a whole lot of personality, for a holiday house that’s anything but vanilla.

Ricky and Haydn’s house

These best mates are embracing the coastal setting, with an easy, breezy design style. Crisp whites, faded blues and swathes of timber evoke the feeling of barefoot beach days.
