Floral affair: A bathroom like you’ve never seen before

A difficult space has been given serious ‘wow’ factor thanks to a standout feature wall

Just like wallpaper, a feature wall of beautiful glass mosaics can lift an ordinary bathroom into the realms of fantasy – and that’s exactly what happens in this Melbourne ensuite.

The azure-coloured swathe enveloping the bath and shower area was the starting point for the bathroom, but it isn’t the only drawcard. Full use has been made of the entranceway by incorporating a furniture-like vanity, custom made by Design Sense, with stained American oak drawers, bringing a natural texture to the scheme that contrasts with the chunky Calacatta marble benchtop. Two Duravit basins from Mary Noall are clad – unusually – with an eye-catching stainless-steel glaze, giving them a contemporary edge and breaking up the expanse of white marble.

The footprint widens to the bathing area, with a large freestanding bath and rainshower set behind a frameless glass panel. Tucked around the corner is a door to the adjoining loo, which has its own sink and access from the main part of the house. Elsewhere, gleaming chrome and an art deco-style mirror reflect the light cast by the windows, the whole look set off with stained blackbutt flooring and porcelain tiles in the wet zone.
