Resort chic: This bathroom evokes a sense of holiday

Beautiful decorative finishes make this family bathroom a chic retreat

Despite its glamorous looks, this elegant Sydney bathroom has to accommodate two young children’s splashtime as well as deliver a relaxing washzone for their parents – all in a relatively compact space without the aid of natural light.

The owner has pulled off this neat design trick thanks to a mixture of smart ideas, luxe finishes and family-friendly fixtures. A large freestanding bath, set against the feature wall and paired with a freestanding floor spout provides a focal point. A frameless shower screen and undermounted basin, as well as wall-hung elements, keep the visual clutter to a minimum. Two showers – one on a rail, perfect for children, and one a luxurious rainshower – keep everyone happy. A tall heated rail has plenty of space for quick-drying towels and the vanity is spacious enough for everyday necessities.

Subtle downlights provide the illumination, setting the mosaics a-gleam. Floor tiles are an easy-care hue that complements both the ceiling, painted in Dulux Brume, and the mosaic wall, allowing pieces like the silver barrel stool – try ‘Grand Drum’ in Metallic from Matt Blatt for similar – to shine.
