A Sunshine Coast beach house with five-star resort feel

Free-flowing spaces define this striking home, with its ultra modern boxy angles. The pool doubles as a water feature, with an infinity edge creating a wall of water. 

A Magis ‘Voido’ rocking chair brings a designer touch to the upper verandah. The daybed was created using recycled timber plinths and an old futon frame to create the base, then topped with a mattress covered in black Sunbrella fabric. A white fringed throw and textured cushions bring a tropical vibe.

Pale wood veneer cabinetry covers the island bench and cupboards, while a smoky grey glass splashback offsets the honed-marble and stainless-steel work surfaces. Oty Light Paolo Crepax ‘Sophie’ pendant lights in chrome add a hit of glamour.

Tones in the living room have been chosen to complement the polished concrete floor. To add warmth, the Jardan couch has been upholstered in grey stria velvet, and topped with a monochrome Hermès throw.

This nook is all about subtle curves, from the bespoke dining table with its rounded edges to the fluid Vitra ‘Panton’ chairs. Assorted tealight holders and vessels, including a white coil vase from Suga Suga (sugasuga.com.au), form an ever-changing centrepiece that takes on a luminous quality at night. Behind the table, the artwork by Pablo Grover, titled By The Hand Of My Father, is made entirely from pieces of sandpaper used by his late father, who was a passionate furniture restorer. 

A tatted-lace bedspread from Lelly Dee Lifestyle and patterned throw offer a soft counterpoint to the hard surfaces in the bedroom. Weighing a hefty 700kg, the hand-crafted bath from Boyd Alternatives had to be craned onto the site.

In lieu of a standard vanity, a timber plinth topped with baskets keeps bathroom accoutrements organised below a slim Omvivo washplane (available at Reece), while a box frame around the mirror by furniture maker Gary Charlton provides a handy ledge.

To evoke the feel of a luxurious Moroccan hammam, the guest bathroom was clad entirely in epoxy liquid resin, which mimics the look of polished concrete. The specialist finish provides a non-slip, durable surface.
