Former Play School presenter, author and singer, Monica Trapaga has listed her three-bedroom cottage in the Southern Highlands. With its all-white exterior, charming heritage features and sprawling garden, the home is the picture-perfect country cottage.

Trapaga first bought the home in 2022, when she was seeking somewhere with more space to be creative and learn to drive before she turned 60, reports Domain. After four years of enjoying the cottage and the charming local area, Trapanga is embarking on her next adventure – spending a year travelling on the road. “I just feel like I want to make a change for my third act,” she told Domain.

Having been built in 1910, the cottage features plenty of desirable heritage features, including hardwood floors, white wood cladding and a cosy fireplace. While the kitchen and bathroom have been updated with modern conveniences, such as a dishwasher and gas cooktop, the heritage character of the spaces have been beautifully preserved. The bathroom still features its old brick fireplace, while the kitchen’s sweet blue cabinetry, open storage and island exude country charm.

Unlike heritage home’s that have recieved an open-plan update, the old cottage still features its original layout with a seperate lounge room and dining space. Since more people are leaning away from open-plan layouts, the cottage’s more closed plan may actually attract young families wanting a more traditional layout. Alternatively, the room currently being used as a dining room could easily be converted into a lounge room for homeowners seeking a kitchen and living room connection.

With it’s wood burner and built-in-bookcases, the current lounge room is a particularly cosy room. Like the rest of the cottage, the room has been updated with stylish plantation shutters. Paired with the white wood cladding and fireplace, these features make for a warm and characterful space.

The bedrooms are sweet and simple, with Trapaga choosing to furnish them with country style furniture and antiques. The main bedroom has a ensuite bathroom and opens out onto the alfresco deck at the back of the house, while the two other bedrooms are located at the front of the property with garden views.

The sprawling gardens are perhaps the property’s biggest selling point. Amongst the rolling lawns, a selection of flowering plants and beautiful trees, including hydrangea, fuschsia, daphne, silver birch and Japanese snowball viburnum, create an idyllic garden setting. There’s also fruiting trees, including lemon, fig, pear, peach, plum and apricot, and a generous garden shed or workshop.
