The House Rules grand final saw Queenslanders Aaron and Daniella face South Australians Kate and Harry in the ultimate race against the clock to design, build and decorate a secret space in one another’s home. Both teams demonstrated why they made it to the final round of the competition, putting their new skills to the test to create a man cave in South Australia and a Vegas cocktail bar on the Gold Coast!
Kate and Harry’s rules asked Aaron and Daniella to:
- Create the ultimate boho blokes’ hangout
- Get creative with a tool shed for Harry
- Indulge our green thumbs throughout the space
Aaron and Daniella took a tiny area and created a beautifully designed, liveable space in Kate and Harry’s Adelaide home. A cheeky side room comprising a bar, movie room and hangout area. Bi-fold doors face onto a side deck with lounging area and newly planted garden spaces, potted plants from Crafers Garden Centre and decorative engineered timber screens lining the fence beyond. In keeping with the boho theme, upcycled bricks stack up in Harry’s Bar, with beer on tap (equipment and supplies from Andale) and a relaxed denim twin lounger from Ambient Lounge looks out to a retractable movie screen.
Tucked into the backyard space at the end of the deck now is a shed for Harry to hang out and do carpentry to his heart’s desire.

Harry’s hangout
Aaron and Daniella’s rules asked Kate and Harry to:
- Celebrate Vegas with a pool party cabana
- Give us glamour with a cocktail bar
- Keep the Aussie flavour with a BBQ area
Aaron and Daniella’s river front property was transformed, their pool area already ‘pimped’ earlier in the competition by team TAS Sean and Ella – next of the wish list was a party cabana and cocktail bar. Team SA cleverly constructed an opulent pavilion at one end of the pool over new decking, draped in swathes of fabric and backed the area with engineered timber privacy screens (from QAQ). Kate and Harry dressed the space with a sumptuous wicker ‘Koby’ sofa from The Outdoor Furniture Specialists, a ‘Haven’ bench from Early Settler at its foot.
Facing the river they created a glamorous cocktail bar with full sink and outdoor preparation area, tiled in more metallic lustre mosaics to match the bling in the pool and answered the critical house rule, while a BBQ area flanked the cabana closer to the home and indoor space.
