With 5 seasons of frantic home makeovers we’ve seen some epic fails and breathtaking successes.
From show-stopping kitchens to divine dining rooms, moody man-caves to bathrooms that are bang on trend, House Rules has it all. We love the inspiration it generates for your own renovation – so many great ideas to add to your own renovation moodboard.
Here are our favourite rooms delivered by teams across the seasons of our favourite reality reno show.
1. Season 4 – Nancy & Daniel’s Dining Room
Elegant and minimal, with just the right amount of bling, this monochromatic dining space wons hearts.
2. Season 5 – Kate and Harry’s Entrance Hall
This gorgeous and welcoming entrance hit the boho brief with layered textures, natural timbers and a touch of pink.
3. Season 6 – Bronik & Corrine’s Dining Room
Another gorgeous dining space, the amazing industrial New York warehouse-style windows stole the show in this colourful open plan area.
4. Season 5 – Troy & Bec’s Kitchen
A watery colour palette was requested and delivered beautifully. Calm, pale blue cabinetry above crisp white, with clean lines and chrome finishes elicited plenty of oohs and aahs.
5. Season 3 – Ben & Danielle’s Bathroom
Well into the competition, the teams had got the hang of mixing patterns. Monochrome black and white floor tiles running up and over the built-in bath were offset by an upcycled sideboard for the vanity.
6. Season 3 – Karina & Brian’s Bathroom
Colour of the earth were reflected in textured pebble mosaic tiles – a backdrop to a statement freestanding bathtub and simple accents of timber and copper.
7. Season 1 – Amy & Sean’s Kitchen
Cast your mind back to Season 1 of House Rules if you can… this show-stopping kitchen took everyone’s breath away with its sleek stainless steel finishes and high shine. Offset by the enormous vintage clock, which also tied in textured timber on the dining table and flooring.
8. Season 5 – Kate & Harry’s Secret Room
This winning space was the ultimate in relaxation with a movie room built into an earlier unused space. Denim bean-bag loungers and dark wall colour fit the man cave brief – with a little boho texture in artwork, rug and ottoman.
9. Season 4 – Nancy & Daniel’s Laundry
A lesson in efficient laundry layout, the teal tiling at the end draws the eye in, beyond ample cabinetry, plenty of bench space and crisp, clean finishes.
10. Season 1 – Carly & Leighton’s Vertical Garden
Stepping outside, this was the first garden wall we saw on House Rules in all its tropical lush abundance. Many more vertical gardens would follow in later seasons.
