Grand Hamptons farmhouse

Homeowners Natalee and husband Mark had long fantasised about buying the cottage that his great-grandfather built. When the dream was realised two years ago, a grand plan to renovate the decrepit little house into a grand Hamptons-style farmhouse was put into action. Natalee’s Hamptons-inspired vision is reflected in every element of the build and in the exquisite finer details.

Hamptons beach cottage

1970s beach shack on the Sunshine Coast has been lovingly revamped into an idyllic coastal getaway. The owner’s inspiration came from stays with friends in homes along the US East Coast.”We had lived in Boston, and I loved the New England aesthetic – styles such as Cape Cod cottages and saltbox houses with their pitched roofs and timber panelling.”

To unify new and old, the lower level was rebuilt and clad in James Hardie Stria cladding to match the original upper exterior, and everything was painted white – the walls in Resene Double Alabaster and the roof in Dulux Surfmist.

The spacious acreage gave homeowners Leanne and Rob plenty of room to build their new family abode to enjoy a semi-rural lifestyle. “The kids have really taken to it,” says Leanne. “They’d love to get a horse, and we’ve got plans to get a couple of cows.”

To contrast the white-on-white palette, rich splashes of colour in the soft furnishings and vintage furniture pieces add visual interest for a new take on the classic Hamptons look.

Family-friendly Hamptons home

A major renovation transformed this awkward bungalow into a two-storey Hamptons inspired home. The weatherboard cladding, white and blue-grey palette, and open plan layout with a double-height void in the centre were a much-needed redo for this contemporary family home, enhancing light and airflow. “The combination of colours and patterns achieves a sophisticated aesthetic, yet it is robust enough for the grandkids!” says homeowner Lynne. “I just love the spaciousness. We can spread out when entertaining and it just flows. I also love how I can walk in the front door and see the pool at the back.”
