Bedroom rescue: Golden touch

Dramatic monochrome gives way to soft and pretty in this bedroom makeover

Looking at this calming sanctuary now, it’s hard to imagine that the master bedroom was previously dominated by a black gloss feature wall. The owner was crying out for a light and bright bedroom, so the moody hues had to go. Interior designer Camilla Molders was enlisted to help. Armed with a scrapbook of magazine tear sheets, she explained her vision for a glamorous new space, centred around a striking light. “The room didn’t need any structural work, which allowed us to concentrate all our energies and budget on the decor – we even got to splash out on a few pieces,” recalls Camilla. The ‘Cactus’ chandelier from Nicholas & Alistair is a wonderfully unique piece.

Covering up the black gloss wall was Camilla’s toughest task and was instrumental in choosing wallpaper for the feature wall. “Painting would have taken far too long and been too costly,” she explains. “You’d never know it was there now!” Besides covering the black paint, the wallpaper – Wilderness from Ferm Living – injects a dose of glamorous femininity. For the remaining walls, Camilla chose the calming tones of Stalactite from Wattyl, and dressed the large bay window in fuss-free Roman blinds.

Camilla searched high and low for the perfect pendant. She found a flawless vintage Italian chandelier at Nicolas & Alistair. Hung centrally in the room for maximum impact, this gorgeous antique is the perfect finishing touch. Table lamps from Surrey Lighting complement the overall gold and white scheme.
