Your bedroom is a sanctuary of style and its décor will reflect how you like to relax and retreat at the end of each day.
Working with a bohemian décor allows you to up the comfort factor with layers of linens, tons of texture and create comfort with cushions.
Here’s our cheat sheet to getting it right:
1. Go global
Assemble hand-loomed textiles, embroidered bedlinens and fringed throws to drape and layer on your bed and furnishings. Celebrate the artisans around the world by showcasing handmade textiles and heirloom items – collected from your travels or handed down through generations.
2. Always use white
White and off-white are key to making the boho look work and will tie all of your other items together. For best results start with white-washed walls, or try a sheer curtain or canopy, a fluffy sheepskin in winter and a hand-knotted cushion or tasselled throw strewn across a chair.
3. Keep it calm with colour
Work with a palette of soft seaside hues, warm wood and sandy tones and white-washed, gossamer fabrics, draped to lighten the mood. Take care when layering to ensure the look remains light and that texture plays a major part.
4. Timber is key
Driftwood, recycled planks, hand-carved stools and woven or rattan bench seats all work well both functionally and visually. Think texture, patina and distressed surfaces and soften with throws and animal hides for comfort.
5. Tribal and traditional patterns
Paisley, mandalas and a touch of diamond will suit the boho aesthetic perfectly. Rethink what you already have and mix it up with the above ideas to reinvent the look, or accent with a few statement pieces.
