Expert tips for Black Friday furniture shopping

To help guide you towards timeless pieces and away from buyer’s remorse, we enlisted the help of Lucy Sutherland, Temple & Webster‘s talented Director of Insights & Trends, who offered her top tips for successful Black Friday furniture shopping.

What are your interior trend predictions for 2026?

“Trends in 2026 are all about individuality and emotional connection. We’re seeing a real shift away from that overly curated, ‘one-look-fits-all’ style toward homes, and are now seeing spaces filled with more warmth, personality and meaning.”

“We’re mixing pieces that tell our individual story through the blending of natural materials, curves, organic forms and richer, moodier colours to create spaces that feel expressive and lived in. Comfort, character and authenticity are the new markers of style.”

What common design mistakes do shoppers make during sale season?

“One of the biggest mistakes that I see is people buying pieces they love in isolation, without thinking about how everything will work together. You might fall for a beautiful sofa or lamp, but if you don’t consider scale, proportion or how the finishes sit within the rest of the room, it can throw everything off balance.”

What advice would you give to anyone shopping for furniture this Black Friday?

“My best advice is to do your research and make a plan before you start adding things to cart. Go in with a strong sense of what you’re trying to achieve and the pieces you actually need, rather than getting caught up in the excitement of a bargain.”

“Sale season is the perfect time to be strategic. Invest in those bigger pieces you’ve been thinking about or the finishing touches that will pull everything together. When you shop with intention, every piece adds up to a home that feels considered, stylish and uniquely yours.”

Your Black Friday questions, answered.

What is Black Friday?

Black Friday is an annual retail sale that started in the United States. The sale is known for its huge discounts and generally marks the beginning of the festive shopping season.

These days, Black Friday sales take place all around the world, including Australia, where many of our favourite retailers significantly mark down their products.

What is Cyber Monday?

Cyber Monday is a big online shopping sale that takes place on the first Monday after Thanksgiving in the United States.

While Black Friday sales generally take place both online and in brick-and-mortar stores, Cyber Monday is focused on online sales (although this doesn’t mean you can’t get Cyber Monday deals in-store as well).

When can I take advantage of these furniture sales?

This year, Black Friday falls on Friday 29 November 2024, and continues on until Cyber Monday which falls on 02 December 2024.
