Back deck
A sunbleached outdoor setting reflects years of use at the rear of this character-filled Queensland cottage. To achieve its aged grey-silver tone, the blackbutt timber decking was left unsealed for several months, giving it a rustic, beachy feel. A pair of old painter’s trestles form a shelving unit for easy-maintenance succulents, while an old palette makes a clever vertical wall garden. The exterior is painted in the now discontinued Pebbledash 2 from Nippon Paints – for a similar shade, try Taubmans Sagamore.
Kitchen
The lovely kitchen comes complete with an expansive island benchtop in stained Tasmanian oak and solid timber cabinetry in Dulux Antique White USA. Open shelves display pretty ceramics and glass jars for a rustic vibe. A cinematic light box, available from Form Function Style, spells out the home’s easy ethos, while an ‘Ottava’ aluminium pendant light from Ikea brings an industrial edge.
Living room
A striped ‘Barton’ sofa from Domayne was the starting point for the cool coastal look in the living room, enhanced by a pair of vintage oars in the corner. The armchairs were a lucky find at a local store – Pottery Barn is a good source for similar designs. French doors open onto the back deck to emphasise the indoor-outdoor connection.
Children’s room
Pretty meets playful in this cute kids’ room, with a ‘Sunday Blanc’ bed from Domayne adorned with a pompom garland from Iammie on Etsy, kantha quilt by Read + Bell and ‘Manyana’ cushions from Kas Australia. The chair, repainted in bubblegum pink, ties in with the ‘Cage’ pendant light from Empirical Style.
Bedroom
Layered in calming neutral shades, the bedroom is centred around an upholstered linen bedhead with Moroccan-style cushions – visit The Brown Trading Co for similar styles. A Kartell ‘Ghost Buster’ side table from Space makes a contemporary statement in the otherwise classic scheme.
Bathroom
The Victoria + Albert ‘Napoli’ volcanic limestone bath is perfect for long, luxurious soaks. A paint-dipped stool from Crate Expectations keeps bathing accoutrements within reach.
Ensuite
The vanity was created using a ‘Nordern’ sideboard from Ikea, teamed with a Marblo sink. Together they deliver great style as well as plenty of storage. Pressed tin mirrors by Jacinta Lepoutre introduce a dash of vintage flair.
