Deck
An appreciation of nature and eco-consciousness are at the heart of the Queensland home. The deck boasts Angelucci 20th Century ‘Butterfly’ chairs and cushions in spotty Cloth ‘Connect’ fabric.
Artwork
Stefan’s own artwork, titled Portrait II, is displayed at the home, adding personal touches to the hallway.
Dining & living area
The open layout and wall of windows with high- and low-set louvres encourage natural ventilation. Solar panels power the electricity and rainwater tanks supply the family’s drinking water.
Dining area
The relaxed open space plays host to a custom-built dining table, which was crafted from recycled timber and finished in 2-pac polyurethane, making it highly durable and easy to clean. Steel Bertoia ‘Side’ chairs were chosen for their functionality and timeless appeal, while the vintage Flos ‘2097’ chandelier above the dining table is a prized piece unearthed at a secondhand shop in London. The fireplace was created with lightweight, heat-resistant Hebel blocks, then finished in cement render to mimic polished concrete.
Living area
Pre-loved pieces mix with contemporary angles to great effect in the living space. The vintage Parker armchairs were reupholstered in mint outdoor fabric – chosen as it won’t fade in the sun – then topped with homemade cushions. The timber magazine rack was an Ebay find. The modern retro style is echoed in the kitchen behind, thanks to a Smeg ‘Fab 28’ fridge and vintage style clock.
Kitchen
Gull Bros Cabinet Makers replicated the kitchen from the artist’s UK home. Running along one wall of the living and dining area, it features 2-pac cupboards, a white glass splashback and Caesarstone benchtop, plus open shelves filled with colourful dinnerware from Mud and Le Creuset.
Guest room
The spare room is an ode to cool British style, with a wall of travel photos and posters, ‘Alto’ monochrome bedlinen from Abode Living and Union Jack pillows – find similar online from Etsy.
Master bedroom
An artwork by Rebecca Ross makes a colourful statement in the master bedroom. The fabric-covered bed was found at Selfridges in London. Crisp white bedding from Abode Living is prettied up with ‘Arches’ cushions from Aqua Door Designs. Low-hanging cone-shaped pendants serve as bedside lamps. For timber pendant lights, try Ross Gardam’s ‘Oak’ range. The space opens onto a balcony furnished with chic striped Ici Et Là deckchairs.
Children’s room
Bunting from Whitebeach Home & Living and a Noosa Classics rug bring vibrancy to the children’s room. The painted ladder serves as shelving for toys and books – Dulux Spandex Green is a good colour match.
Ensuite
The sophisticated ensuite flows into the master bedroom via a sliding door. The black leather chair and stool are iconic Knoll ‘Barcelona’ designs.
Bathroom
In the main bathroom, a custom-built Caesarstone vanity and Cermica Senio white mosaic wall tiles are juxtaposed against black slate floor tiles, which are cool underfoot. To keep the budget in check, an inexpensive shower rose was attached to an extension arm to create the look and feel of a luxe overhead rain shower.
Exterior
The exterior is a mix of spotted gum panels and cladding painted in Resene Black Russian.
