James Van Der Beek’s Beverly Hills home has returned to the rental market, offering a rare glimpse inside the thoughtfully renovated family retreat where the late Dawson’s Creek actor lived with his wife Kimberly and their six children before the family made the life-changing move to Texas in 2020.

Rather than embracing flashy Hollywood glamour, the home leans into warmth, comfort and relaxed indoor-outdoor living. Every room feels designed for real family life, while still delivering the timeless character that makes Spanish-style homes so enduringly appealing.

Now listed for US$13,950 (around AU$21,000) per month, the four-bedroom, three-bathroom residence still showcases many of the design decisions that made it such a welcoming sanctuary.

A Spanish-style home with effortless warmth

Spanning more than 290 square metres, the James Van Der Beek’s Beverly Hills home blends classic Californian architecture with relaxed, family-friendly interiors.

Hardwood floors flow throughout much of the home, while soaring vaulted ceilings with exposed timber beams create a sense of openness in the main living area. A wood-burning fireplace anchors the space, adding warmth and character.

The kitchen continues the understated aesthetic with quality appliances, generous preparation space and room for casual family dining. French doors throughout the home blur the boundary between inside and out, encouraging the easy lifestyle Southern California is famous for.

Designed for family life

Before leaving California, James and Kimberly completed an extensive redesign of the home that was later featured by Architectural Digest.

Rather than focusing on luxury for luxury’s sake, the couple prioritised flexibility. Furniture could easily move between indoor and outdoor spaces, making entertaining children and guests effortless. James even designed and built a custom timber daybed himself, a piece that became one of the family’s favourite features.

It’s this thoughtful approach that gives the James Van Der Beek’s Beverly Hills home such enduring appeal. Instead of feeling staged, it feels genuinely lived in.

Resort-style outdoor living

Outside, the property offers everything you’d expect from a Beverly Hills retreat.

A swimming pool, generous entertaining terraces and multiple balconies create several places to relax throughout the day, while mature landscaping provides welcome privacy.

A detached pool house adds flexibility, whether it’s used as a home office, creative studio, gym or additional storage.

A home that marked a new chapter

The family relocated to a 36-acre ranch in Texas in 2020 in search of more space and a closer connection to nature for their growing family. The ranch later became their permanent home after they purchased it shortly before James’ death in February 2026 following his battle with colorectal cancer.

Today, the home stands as a reminder of that important chapter, one that balanced Hollywood life with a warm, grounded family home.
