House Rules judge and Home Beautiful past editor and managing director Wendy Moore reworked her sunroom into a fresh new laundry.

Timber folding doors once concealed Wendy and Pete’s laundry from view but now, thanks to a mini laundry renovation with new cabinetry, a paint job and chic accessories, there’s no need to hide it away.

“When we took off the doors it really opened up the space.”

The imminent arrival of a new family member brings joy, excitement – and, more often than not, a rapid room reshuffle. When Wendy and Pete discovered they were expecting two little girls, they knew their outdated laundry design was not up to the task. “With the existing laundry, we just got by, but there was no bench space for folding,” explains Wendy.

Despite working with such a small space, Wendy and Pete found that by choosing slimline bespoke joinery, they’d be able to include a compact, yet efficient laundry where once was a basic tub and place to lean an ironing board, but not much else.

“Not long ago, this was a small unused space and now it’s a functional extra room.”

The petite but practical laundry now features a hardy bench – Caesarstone in Snow – with plenty of room for folding and a laundry basket. The couple chose a Hansgrohe gooseneck tap and a deep sink from Reece. “The tap is fantastic for hand-washing, and the sink was great for bathing the girls when they were little,” says Wendy.

By taking the cabinetry right up to the ceiling, storage space is maximised and hidden away, leaving the benchtop free as a functional space. Open shelving between the two stores laundry essentials within easy access and cleaning products are hidden in under-sink cabinetry.
