Luxurious open-plan bathroom

Inspired by past holidays, this open-plan bedroom and ensuite is a couple's retreat.

This slick ensuite has all the hallmarks of a chic hotel, so it’s no surprise to learn that holiday stays inspired its cool lines and understated good looks. The room holds all the usual requirements, but the semi-open layout is designed so that the more functional items, the shower and the toilet, are hidden from view behind a blade wall. This makes the streamlined, custom-made vanity – built slightly lower than regular height to accommodate a pair of vessel basins – the main event.

A limited colour palette gives a contemporary, minimalist feel, with dark grey Bluestone floor tiles co-ordinating with the concrete pavers used cleverly as wall tiles for an industrial flavour. Golden timber veneer on the cabinet base warms up the scheme and ties in with the simple bed table and flooring in the bedroom.

The freestanding bath by the window is best positioned for the view and opaque louvres, from Allteck Aluminium Windows, can be closed for privacy or opened for ventilation, whilst also adding an architectural element. The hanging pendant light adds interest to the corner; its soft frame chimes with the curves of the twin basins and bath, and acts as a counterpoint to the more angular lines of the mirror and cabinetry.
