If you’re on the hunt for a new home, be it a rental or to buy, you may find you have a familiar idea in your head of how it should look. It might just be that you’ve been looking through its rooms for years…

More than a makeover we’ve seen on a reality renovation show, the homes of our favourite TV characters become so familiar to us we tend to feel like we’ve actually visited. It makes sense then that we often aspire to creating a home just like it for ourselves.

Here’s a handful that have floated our boat over the years from the comfort of our own sofas.

1. Monica’s apartment, Friends

Possibly the most coveted share house ever, the interiors made quite an impression on the millions of viewers who tuned in for 10 seasons of the sitcom over a full decade from 1994-2004. Much like the lives and adventures experienced by the cast of characters, Moncia’s apartment was at once relatable and aspirational – quirky, always evolving and never dull.

2. Carrie Bradshaw’s Apartment, Sex And The City

A no-brainer. We chose to never wonder just how a struggling writer could afford the amazing space the Sex And The City star inhabited and, whilst the apartment changed and developed with Carrie’s style, we never stopped wanting her walk-through wardrobe… and the incredible fashion therein (tutu, anyone?).

3. Everyones’ home in Big Little Lies

Take your pick! Madeline’s home is the ultimate in eat-in kitchen style, and just a sand dune away from the ocean, whilst Celeste and Perry’s is a contemporary architectural wonder. We can’t decide if we’re interested in Renata’s plot line simply because of her home, so we’ll mull it over via the leafy-boho of Bonnie and Nathan’s snug abode.

4. The Beach house, Grace and Frankie

If you love Hamptons style and haven’t discovered this series yet, it might be time for a binge. Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin co-habitate this stunning coastal dream of a beach house that’s all sea-glass blues, glossy white timber and textured rattan.

5. Downton Abbey

If something a little more traditional is your style, we can’t go past Downton Abbey for its pure Victorian oppulence. With furnishings, carpets, artwork and the sheer scale tipping us perhaps a tad over budget, we can certainly take a lot of period inspiration from the stately home, designed by the same architect who designed the Houses of Parliament in Westminster. Perchance to dream.
