The Golden Bachelor has arrived in Australia, with the reality series set to welcome its first cohort of 20 contestants in 2025. The series, hosted by Samantha Armytage and led by 61-year-old Bachelor Barry ‘Bear’ Myrden, is a mature take on The Bachelor and Bachelorette, with all contestants on The Golden Bachelor aged over 50. Per the show’s grand tradition, most of the action takes place within the grounds of a sprawling mystery mansion.

While previous iterations of The Bachelor were filmed in Sydney’s Northern Beaches and Hunter’s Hill, the Golden Bachelor has nabbed a truly supreme piece of Australian real estate for its premiere season.

The Golden Bachelor Australia mansion, 2025
The first season of The Golden Bachelor Australia was filmed at Sydney’s historic Tresco mansion in Elizabeth Bay.
The elite suburb in Sydney’s east is renowned for its historic, sandstone properties and unmatched harbour views—and the Tresco house is no exception.

Designed by prominent architect Thomas Rowe, the mansion was built between 1867 and 1883 with the aid of Italian stonemasons. The colonial-style home maintains much of its sandstone facade, as well as other period features, including a turned timber staircase.
In many ways, the 3600sqm property appears tailor-made for The Golden Bachelor, with a multi-tiered lawn area and private gazebo creating the perfect backdrops for the reality show’s private moments. Then there’s the panoramic water views.

The house itself boasts 13 rooms, including formal dining and living rooms. The home maintains a heritage aesthetic, with antique fireplaces, chandeliers and hardwood floors throughout.

There are eight bedrooms, with an additional two studies and a ‘maid’s quarters’. Meanwhile, the original stables have since been converted into a cellar and a study.
We don’t know if the home’s private ocean pool will make an appearance on the reality show, but in case you were wondering—yes, it has one.
How much is The Golden Bachelor mansion worth?
Dubbed “Sydney’s most distinguished historic waterfront estate”, the Tresco mansion used in The Golden Bachelor Australia last hit the market in 2024 for an asking price of $110-$120 million.

This was the second time the property was listed by its owner, Janette Waterhouse, a member of the prominent Australian horse-racing family and daughter-in-law to bookmaker Bill Waterhouse.
The previous asking price, during the COVID-19 pandemic, was $50 million. The incline in the price may appear steep, however, the Wentworth Courier reports Atlassian co-founder Scott Farquhar spent $130 million on a nearby property in December 2022, which lacked Tresco’s waterfront access.
Janette and her ex-husband David Waterhouse bought Tresco in 2004 for only $11 million. Prior to that it was owned by the Anstee family, who purchased it from the government for $9 million in 1997.
