I’ve spoken before about my struggles with the Australian heat, particularly when I’m trying to get a good night’s sleep. However, with a set of perfectly crisp linen sheets and a light duvet, this problem proves relatively easy to solve.

Comparatively, attempting to get a good night’s sleep when my partner, who consistently runs hot, wants minimal bedding in the depths of winter, stands as a longstanding issue, and one I’ve never been able to solve, until now.

Over the past few weeks, I’ve been testing Sheridan’s new range of custom quilts, created specifically for couples with contrasting temperature preferences, and (spoiler incoming) enjoying the most restful nights I can ever remember having.

Introducing Sheridan’s Custom Comfort Quilts

Designed for couples with different temperature preferences and to reduce the need for an excessive seasonal bedding collection, Sheridan’s Custom Comfort Quilts offer the ultimate solution to an array of issues that most of us, myself included, didn’t even think we could solve.

Available in a range of weights and sizes, including clever new half quilts, Sheridan’s Custom Comfort quilts can be securely attached to each other, allowing you to add and remove layers whenever you feel so inclined.

Building your perfect quilt

If you simply want added warmth: clip another full-size Custom Comfort quilt to your base.

If you run cold, but your partner runs hot: clip a half quilt to your base duvet on your side of the bed, leaving the other as-is.

If you run cold, but your partner runs colder: clip two half quilts in different weights to your base, assigning the heavier of the two to the colder sleeper.

Sheridan Custom Comfort Quilt review: at a glance

  • Our rating: 9 out of 10
  • Why I rated it a 9/10: As my partner and I sleep at very different temperatures, Sheridan’s Custom Comfort Quilts solved an array of issues I assumed I’d simply have to live with (unless I adopted the Scandinavian Sleep Method, which has always looked a little too messy for my liking). Even alone, the Deluxe Feather & Down Medium Weight Base Quilt is incredibly plush, but since clipping the half-quilt to my side, my bed has never felt so luxurious.

Pros

  • Plush, cloudlike comfort
  • Clippable layers for a customisable quilt weight
  • Reduces the need for excessive seasonal bedding
  • Clips and grip tabs are easy to use and very secure
  • Half quilt isn’t noticeable under the duvet cover
  • Premium quality

Cons

  • Premium price point (base quilts range from $299.99 to $999.99)

The sleep test

As I run very cold in winter, and my partner is the polar opposite, I was recommended the Deluxe Feather & Down Medium Weight Quilt, paired with the Deluxe Feather & Down Light Weight Half Quilt, for my side of the bed only. And over the last few weeks, I’ve been putting this setup to the test; napping, snoozing, and snoring until I caught up on a considerable amount of sleep debt.

1. Assembly

In terms of assembling Sheridan’s Custom Comfort Quilt, the process was nothing short of effortless. The clips matched up perfectly and snapped together with minimal effort, and the handy grip tag in the centre kept the half-quilt firmly secured on top.

Even separately, the quilts felt amazing, but when put together, they took my sleep setup to the next level; super plush and weighty on my side, and light and airy on my partner’s. However, despite the weight being considerably different on each side, it didn’t look uneven under the cover, just full and fluffy, like any good quilt should.

2. Comfort

I fully expected such a premium quilt to be plush, but my Custom Comfort Quilt far exceeded my expectations. The lush heaviness on my side of the bed made me feel like I was tucked away in a cocoon (but, thankfully, it doesn’t trap heat). Since adding this piece to my bed, I’ve been falling asleep quickly and sleeping much more deeply; I’ve even been dreaming, which is a rarity for me. Better yet, my partner says he hasn’t overheated since the first use.

In fact, from the very first night, this quilt solved my recurring issue of having the quilt thrown off or pushed halfway down the bed, which I used to think stemmed from my partner’s innate restlessness, but now realise was likely due to him overheating.

Final verdict: Are Sheridan’s Custom Comfort Quilts worth it?

In a word, yes. While Sheridan’s quilts are by no means ‘cheap,’ I see them as a real investment in quality sleep.

Editor’s Tip: Save 20% when you bundle any four or more bedding items with Hommey.

From the moment I laid eyes upon Hommey‘s brand-new wine and chamomile bedding set, it shot right to the very top of my interior-related wishlist. Reversible, striped, and drenched in a decadent shade of burgundy, it’s the kind of piece that can instantly elevate an otherwise boring room (A.K.A. my ‘work in progress’ master bedroom).

Having not shopped with Hommey before, I wasn’t sure what to expect in terms of quality, but even straight out of the box, this bedding was luxe. The standout feature, for me, is the zip closures on the duvet cover and pillowcases, which make it remarkably easy to keep your quilt and pillows from spilling out of their covers.

But this set isn’t just gorgeous and practical; it feels amazing too. Made from 100% organic cotton in a breathable sateen weave and stonewashed for extra softness, Hommey’s sheets are buttery soft, but still surprisingly breathable. And, if you’re feeling a little fancy, I highly recommend adding a pair of their new Sheepskin Slippers to your cart as well.

FAQ: What you need to know

What is a customisable quilt?

A customisable quilt is a quilt system that lets you clip together different quilt layers to create your ideal warmth level. You can add or remove layers depending on the season, your sleep temperature, or your partner’s preferences.

How do clip-together quilts work?

Clip-together quilts use fasteners or clips to attach multiple quilt layers together. This lets you combine lighter and heavier layers for personalised comfort and year-round use.

What is a half quilt?

A half quilt is a quilt layer designed for one side of the bed. It allows couples with different temperature preferences to customise each side of the bed separately without needing two completely different quilts.

Are half quilts good for couples?

Yes. Half quilts are ideal for couples because each person can choose their preferred warmth level. One side can stay cool while the other side stays warmer, helping both people sleep more comfortably.

What is the best quilt for couples with different temperature preferences?

The best quilt for couples with different temperature preferences is a customisable quilt with separate clip-on layers or half quilts. This allows each sleeper to personalise their side of the bed without compromising comfort.

Is a customisable quilt good for all seasons?

Yes. Customisable quilts are designed for year-round use because layers can be added during winter and removed during warmer months.

What is the best bedding for better sleep?

The best bedding for better sleep depends on your sleep temperature and comfort preferences. Breathable sheets, supportive pillows, and a customisable quilt can help create a more comfortable sleep environment.
