Tiny houses are growing in popularity and present a real and attractive solution to issue of over-crowding in our cities.

This tiny house then, ticks all of our boxes.

Enter a tiny house with it’s walls covered in growing succulents! In answer to the need for efficient, sustainable housing solutions, 3D printing and design studio Emerging Objects have created an innovative solution with their Planter Tiles. 3D printed in cement to clad a structure and carry a plant inside – they work to both insulate and beautify whichever surface they cover.

Seen here, the “Cabin of Curiosities”, is prototype for a house built using the 3D printing technology and blazes the trail for innovation and upcycling. Attached to a frame, walls are clad with a closely-packed system of 4,500 of these clever 3D printed hexagonal tiles, in 6 different patterns. Four of the tiles can sustain a plant, ultimately composing a vertical garden wall. Colour variations in the tiles come with the mixing and printing process, giving a beautiful ombre range to the neutral colour that results in the different tiles.

“All the components are sustainable and made from natural or upcycled waste streams,” Emerging Objects founder Ronald Rael told 3D Printing Industry.
