Tiny houses are growing in popularity and present a real and attractive solution to issue of over-crowding in our cities.

This tiny house then, ticks all of our boxes.

For lovers of the natural world, succulents fulfill our gardening dreams, from both a low-care-factor standpoint, and for their beautiful aesthetic characteristics. At the other end of the scale, technology is never far away in the advancement of design and architecture of our homes.

Enter a tiny house with it’s walls covered in growing succulents! In answer to the need for efficient, sustainable housing solutions, 3D printing and design studio Emerging Objects have created an innovative solution with their Planter Tiles. 3D printed in cement to clad a structure and carry a plant inside – they work to both insulate and beautify whichever surface they cover.

Today we announce the Cabin of 3D Printed Curiosities! A highly crafted demonstration that #3dprintedarchitecture can be sustainable, beautiful, multi-material, and dynamic. Made of #3dprinted ceramic, recycled Chardonnay grape skins, sawdust, coffee, cement, and translucent bioplastic. The cabin is a response to Oakland's relaxation of secondary housing units to demonstrate the art of #additivemanufacturing and its potential in the making of #architecture, #interiordesign, #lighting, and #furniture. More info from @archpaper, who compare the project to Aalto's Muuratsalo, at the link in the profile. Seen here, the “Cabin of Curiosities”, is prototype for a house built using the 3D printing technology and blazes the trail for innovation and upcycling. Attached to a frame, walls are clad with a closely-packed system of 4,500 of these clever 3D printed hexagonal tiles, in 6 different patterns. Four of the tiles can sustain a plant, ultimately composing a vertical garden wall. Colour variations in the tiles come with the mixing and printing process, giving a beautiful ombre range to the neutral colour that results in the different tiles.

"All the components are sustainable and made from natural or upcycled waste streams," Emerging Objects founder Ronald Rael told 3D Printing Industry.
