The Block 2027 location has officially been revealed, and after two seasons of ambitious new builds, the renovation juggernaut is returning to its roots–albeit on a much grander and more complicated scale.
For it’s 23rd season, The Block is heading to Jacksons Hill in Sunbury, Victoria, where five teams will be tasked with transforming historic heritage buildings into spectactular family homes.
And these aren’t your average fixer-uppers. The grand buildings are about 170 years old and form part of a site that has previously been an industrial school, psychiatric hospital and university campus.
With heritage restrictions, enormous old buildings and a fascinating history to contend with, The Block 2027 is already shaping up to look very different from the show we’ve seen in recent years.

Where is The Block 2027 location?
The Block 2027 location is Jacksons Hill in Sunbury, around 40 minutes northwest of Melbourne’s CBD.
Nine officially confirmed the location at its 2027 Upfront, revealing that the network has acquired three grand heritage buildings from the Victorian Government for the new season.
Sunbury sits on Melbourne’s northwestern fringe, at the foothills of the Macedon Ranges, combining country-town charm with relatively easy access to the city. The historic area is surrounded by rolling hills and vineyards and is also famous as the birthplace of The Ashes.
But it’s the history contained within Jacksons Hill that will make this season particularly interesting.
What is Jacksons Hill?
Long before it became The Block’s 2027 location, Jacksons Hill had a complex history stretching back to the 1860s. The site was initially established as an industrial school for neglected and delinquent children before later becoming the Sunbury Lunatic Asylum in 1879.
The institution expanded over the following decades and continued operating as a psychiatric hospital until the 1960s. The site was later used as the Caloola Training Centre for people with disabilities.
Victoria University eventually took over part of the precinct in the 1990s, establishing its Sunbury campus at Jacksons Hill before the campus closed in 2011.
The three buildings acquired by Nine have reportedly been vacant since around 2010.
What will contestants renovate?
Rather than handing each couple an individual house, The Block 2027 will begin with three enormous heritage buildings. Five teams will then be challenged to preserve and revitalise the historic buildings while transforming them into five “high-quality and aspirational family homes”, according to Nine.
Exactly how three buildings will ultimately become five individual homes remains a mystery surrounding the new seasons.
It marks a major change from the purpose-built houses contestants tackled in Daylesford in 2025 and Mount Eliza in 2026, with the 2027 Blockheads instead facing the quirks–and potential headaches–of restoring existing heritage architecture.
Is the new location heritage listed?
Yes. Jacksons Hill is included on the Victorian Heritage Register, meaning renovating The Block 2027 location isn’t going to be quite as straightforward as knocking down a wall when a floor plan isn’t working. Works at the site will be subject to heritage requirements and approvals, with proposed changes needing to protect the historical significance of the buildings.
Member for Sunbury Josh Bull has said the project will allow vacant buildings to be restored under the supervision of Heritage Victoria rather than continuing to deteriorate.
It could also introduce an entirely new kind of challenge to The Block. Contestants are accustomed to tight deadlines, budgets and demanding judges, but working within the restrictions of a significant heritage property may leave considerably less freedom to alter facades, layouts and original architectural details.
There’s also a secret sixth renovation
Five houses apparently aren’t enough for 2027.
Alongside the main season of The Block, a new spin-off series called The Block: The House Next Door will premiere on Stan.
The series will see returning fan-favourite Blockheads tackle a sixth renovation “over the fence” from the five new teams, with the property also location at Jacksons Hill.
Scott Cam and Shelley Craft are confirmed to host the spin-off, although the returning contestants are yet to be announced. It means we’ll essentially have two Blocks happening side-by-side in Sunbury in 2027–five new teams competing on Nine and a group of familiar faces taking on another property next door.
Who will host The Block 2027?
Scott Cam and Shelley Craft will return for the 23rd season. At this stage, the 2027 contestants and judging panel have not been confirmed. Applications for the new season are already open, with filming expected to take place over approximately 12 weeks from February 2027.
When does The new season start?
Nine hasn’t announced an official premiere date for The Block 2027 yet. If the series follows its usual schedule, however, we can expect the new season to arrive in the second half of 2027, most likely around late July or August.
Until then, there are still plenty of questions surrounding the location of The Block for its new season–including how three historic buildings will be divided into five homes, what contestants will be permitted to change, and perhaps most importantly, which former Blockheads will be moving in next door.
One thing is certain: after the sprawling new builds of recent seasons, watching five teams wrestle with 170-year old heritage buildings which such a rich history is going to make for a very different Block.
