Like any task, the right tools make unpleasant jobs far less disagreeable and let’s face it, cleaning the toilet falls into the category of Life’s Necessary Evils. While it may be the least glamorous of all the helpful housekeeping tools, investing in the best toilet brush you can afford is one of those “buy once, buy well” moments. We’d rather not discuss it, but needs must, and an effective toilet brush is essential for keeping your home and bathroom clean and hygienic. Bonus points if it looks good while standing ready to do so.
The Home Beautiful team is here to help you choose your weapon with models we have tried, tested (or asked our friends to recommend) and compiled our list of the best toilet brushes to buy for your home. It’s not glamorous, it’s not exciting, but it is non-negotiable.

OXO Good Grips compact toilet brush and canister in White
“This toilet brush has been a game-changer for me,” says Diana Moore, Home Beautiful Digital Editor. “I grew tired of chic-but-useless toilet brushes snapping in my hand, but was still after something that would do the job well. Lightweight yet stylish, the brush is on a sturdy handle with a good grip for thorough cleaning. The tapered 360° brush head is stored in a hinged cradle that stays in place when you remove the brush, then drains excess moisture behind the scenes after use.”
Materials: Thermoplastic rubber
Key features:
- Hideaway storage cradle
- Airflow inside holder
- Large handle grip
Available at:
- $34.95 from Kitchen Warehouse
- $44.95 from Howards Storage World

Butler Hush toilet brush in White
$49.95, Howard’s Storage World
Best for: reason
Home Beautiful Copy Editor Kate Barber has just moved into her new home so was on the hunt. “I’d been looking around for a nice-looking toilet brush for a while to upgrade from a metal canister that had gone rusty. When I found this one in ceramic it was perfect. I like the fact that the cylinder is textured – adds a bit of interest to an otherwise boring utilitarian object in the bathroom. I was also pleased to find that it had matching toilet roll holder so that corner of my bathroom looks very coordinated but because it’s white in an all-white bathroom it also fades into the background. There are also other matching items, from a tumbler, to a soap dispenser and soap dish. The chrome detailing adds a luxe touch.”
Materials: Ceramic with chrome top.
Key features:
- Chrome detail
- Double-coated gloss ceramic finish
- Hidden brush design
Available at:
- $49.95 from Kitchen Warehouse
- $53.10 from Big W

03
Joseph Joseph Flex Smart toilet brush in Light Grey
$39.95, Kitchen Warehouse
My friend Lee has this one. “It’s in a really good container that’s easy to clean,” says Lee. “The brush is flexible silicone so it can be completely cleaned in 60-degree hot water. “I find those other ones just horrendous.”
Materials: Durable ABS container, Rubber-like EVA head, polypropylene, stainless steel stem.
Key features:
- Works well with natural cleaners like vinegar and lemon
- Flexible plastic head
- “D” head design reaches to clean under toilet rim
- Slimline profile for tight spaces
Available at:
- $35 at Amazon
- $35.97 from Myer
- $35 from The Good Guys

04
Orla toilet brush holder
$10, Target
My friend Ellen works in retail and is all about interiors. This textured toilet brush caught her eye at Target. Ellen loves the ceramic ribbed detail and finish of the entire Orla range. “I also have the matching soap dish,” she says. For affordable bathroom styling like this, it’s a great way to give your bathroom a makeover – with the coordinating hand wash dispenser, toothbrush holder and lidded jar.
If it’s practicality you’re after, however, beware the reviews on this one, warning that the lid design makes cleaning difficult.
Materials: Ceramic base, metal lid.
Key features:
- Brushed brass-look finish
- Textured rib detail
- 5 coordinating pieces in range

05

07
Loo Blade in Charcoal
$64.95, Koh
The sleek, handmade ceramic base of this beauty is just the beginning of its genius. Koh has “taken all our toilet-cleaning trauma and made a clean sweep with the Koh Loo Blade.” Rather than a brush, the head is a water-resistant squeegee-like head that dries quickly and resists the build-up of soil and germs.
