Premiering in 2003, The Block is one of the longest-running Australian reality TV shows and is as divisive as it is successful. The show has withstood fluctuations in ratings and COVID’s social-distancing restrictions, but can it survive the homes not selling? It’s a reality they were confronted with in 2025, with some of the houses still languishing on the market a year later.
It’s not the first time homes have been passed in at auction, but there’s a distinct feeling that this time is different. Many of us grew up during The Block’s glory days, when life-changing auction results were almost expected, and we remember the contestants from those early seasons fondly.

We’ve seen many of them return for All Stars seasons, and some have even become part of the show’s fabric. Dan Reilly, for example, went from contestant to foreman and is now one of The Block’s most beloved faces.
What you might not remember is that the series began with celebrity landscaper Jamie Durie at the helm. He hosted for two years before Scotty Cam took over, calling ‘tools down’ from season three. Shelley Craft joined him from season four.
As for the judges, real estate personality John McGrath appeared across the first five seasons. He was joined by magazine editor Neale Whitaker in season three, interior designer Shaynna Blaze in season four and interior expert Darren Palmer in season six. Real estate agent Marty Fox gradually took over from Neale in season 19.
As we head into 2026, we’re unsure how many seasons the show has left. It could be one or it could be another 20. Regardless, we thought it would be fun to revisit the dramas, the downfalls and the divas of the show. Which The Block couples are still together, and who has called it quits? Who had babies, who’s still working in building and who never wants to look at a hammer again? We reveal it all.

Season 1, 2003 – Bondi Beach

The very first season of The Block set the blueprint for everything that followed. Filmed in a modest apartment block on Roscoe Street in Bondi Beach in 2003, four couples transformed identical two-bedroom apartments into dream homes, proving that great design and determination could deliver extraordinary results.
Adam and Fiona took out the inaugural win with a profit of $156,000, while every team walked away with a significant payday – a reminder of a time when The Block felt refreshingly simple, and the auction results captured the imagination of the nation.
Among the season’s most memorable contestants was singer Amity Dry, whose relationship with partner Phil Rankine made them one of The Block‘s favourite couples. Although they later returned to the franchise, their romance didn’t go the distance, with the pair eventually parting ways. Today, Amity still pursues music and is also a real estate agent.
Another standout duo from the inaugural season was Warren Sonin and Gavin Atkins, whose eye for design made them early fan favourites despite finishing third. Their passion for architecture and interiors has only grown in the years since, with the couple transforming their breathtaking Hesket Park home at the iconic Hanging Rock into a showcase of thoughtful design and country living, cementing their place as enduring style stars well beyond The Block.
Season 2, 2004 – Manly

Season 2 proved The Block was far more than a one-hit wonder. Moving from Bondi to Manly’s Whistler Street in 2004, the series expanded to 26 episodes as viewers embraced the renovation phenomenon. One of the original teams was replaced by Andrew Rochford and Jamie Nicholson – a twist of fate that would change Andrew’s life, launching him into a long and successful career in Australian television that has spanned more than two decades.
Season 3, 2010 –Vaucluse

After a six-year hiatus, The Block made a much-anticipated return in 2010 with a fresh look and a new era. The revival saw Scott Cam take over hosting duties from Jamie Durie, bringing a more hands-on, everyman energy to the series, while John McGrath returned as judge alongside new addition Neale Whitaker. Set in the upmarket Sydney suburb of Vaucluse, the season followed four couples as they transformed a set of apartments, successfully reintroducing The Block to audiences and cementing its modern format.
Duncan Miller quickly became a fan favourite alongside teammate Mark, thanks to his easygoing personality and solid work on site. He later returned to The Block in a very different role, reappearing as a tradie as recently as season 20, bringing his experience full circle within the franchise.
Season 4, 2011 – Richmond

The fourth season of The Block in 2011 marked a significant shift for the series, relocating the action from Sydney to Melbourne for the first time. Set in the inner-city suburb of Richmond, the season once again featured Scott Cam as host, with judges John McGrath and Neale Whitaker returning, and Shelley Craft joining as Challenge Master. In a dramatic finale, Polly Porter and Warwick “Waz” Jones were the only couple to successfully sell at auction, ultimately taking out the win in a closely watched and hard-fought season.
Josh and Jenna first appeared on The Block as a young, high-energy couple who quickly won over audiences with their determination and on-screen chemistry. They’ve remained closely followed ever since, building a strong social media presence as fans have watched their journey unfold well beyond the show. Now, they’re nearing the completion of their Rutherglen homestead revival, embracing a slower pace and a quiet country life alongside their daughters.
Season 5, 2012 – South Melbourne

The fifth season of The Block in 2012 continued the show’s successful Melbourne era, once again setting up shop in the inner-city suburb of South Melbourne on Dorcas Street. Scott Cam returned as host alongside Shelley Craft as Challenge Master, while the judging panel expanded with Shaynna Blaze joining John McGrath and Neale Whitaker, and guest judge Darren Palmer adding fresh perspective. The season reinforced the show’s formula of high-stakes renovations and strong personalities.
Popular team Dan and Dani have remained active in the renovation and design world since their time on The Block, returning as a team and then in other on-camera roles. A lot has happened in the years since the show, including Dan joining foreman Keith Schleiger as foreboy in 2010 before graduating to sole foreman in season 20.
Sophie and Dale Vine were other fan favourites on The Block in 2012 and have stayed together since the show, building a busy family life and continuing to work in renovation, landscaping and lifestyle projects. Dale has run his landscaping business and appeared in various TV roles, while Sophie has focused on family and creative ventures.
They continue to share their life and projects on social media, raising their three children and staying connected to the renovation and design space they first became known for.
Season 6, 2013 – Bondi

The sixth season of The Block, All Stars, marked the show’s tenth anniversary and saw a return to its original roots in Bondi, Sydney, after two seasons in Melbourne. Bringing back familiar faces and fan favourites, Scott Cam once again hosted alongside Shelley Craft.
Neale Whitaker and Shaynna Blaze returned to the judging panel, joined full-time by Darren Palmer. Premiering in early 2013, the season blended nostalgia with high-stakes renovation as returning contestants competed in the suburb where it all began.
Season 7, 2013 – South Melbourne

The seventh season of The Block, Sky High, premiered in May 2013 as the series headed back to South Melbourne. For the first time, the competition expanded to five couples, each representing a different Australian state, adding a new level of rivalry to the renovation series.
Twin sisters and South Australia Police constables Alisa and Lysandra left a strong impression on The Block: Sky High in 2013, taking unpaid leave from their roles in the Sturt Local Service Area to compete in the renovation series. Their sharp design instincts and teamwork carried them through to victory, ultimately being crowned winners of the season and becoming one of the show’s most memorable and successful duos.
Popular Block team Matt and Kim Di Costa went on to get their own spin-off show, Matt & Kim to the Rescue, where they became known for their hands-on renovation approach.
Since then, they have launched Nood Co, a design-focused bathroomware brand best known for its concrete basins, which has gone on to be featured on The Block itself.
Bec and George Douros have continued their success in design and property with their company Nectaar, building a strong profile in the renovation space since their time on The Block.
While there has been some speculation about their relationship status, it appears George has simply stepped back from the public spotlight, with Bec continuing to lead the brand and remain active on professional social media. “We are living a quiet and private life with our three children and would love to keep it that way!” Bec confirmed, New Idea reports.
Season 8, 2014 – Albert Park

The eighth season of The Block, Fans v Faves, premiered in January 2014, as the series once again filmed in Melbourne, this time in Albert Park. In a standout finale for the era, Steve and Chantelle were crowned winners after achieving a $636,000 profit on their sale, plus a $100,000 bonus for taking out the competition.
In their debut season of The Block, Kyal and Kara appeared as “fans” but quickly went on to become favourites in their own right. They have since built a highly successful design and construction business, launched homewares and have made return appearances on the series, cementing their status as one of the show’s most enduring success stories.
Season 9, 2014 – Prahran

The ninth season of The Block, Glasshouse, premiered in July 2014. Filmed at the expansive Glasshouse building on High Street in Prahran, Melbourne, it was the second season to feature five competing couples and introduced a new twist, with contestants also judging each other’s rooms.
Michael and Carlene Duffy were breakout contestants from The Block: Glasshouse, with Carlene in particular going on to build a long-standing career in media, design, and styling, becoming a regular fixture in the interiors space. Michael, meanwhile, has gone on to obtain his pilot’s licence.
Season 10, 2015 – South Yarra

The tenth season of The Block, Triple Threat, premiered in early 2015. Filmed in South Yarra, the season saw a 1970s apartment block transformed into four luxury townhouses, and introduced a new competition twist, with returning favourites competing for a place alongside new teams.
It also marked the return of Dan Reilly in a new role as apprentice foreman, working under Keith Schleiger and adding to the show’s evolving on-site team dynamic.
Season 11, 2015 – South Yarra

The eleventh season of The Block premiered in September 2015 on the Nine Network and is often referred to as Blocktagon, though the title was not used on-screen. Arriving just months after Triple Threat, it continued the franchise’s rapid production pace that year. Set around a distinctive multi-apartment layout, the season ultimately proved more low-key in terms of standout personalities, with none of the teams leaving a particularly lasting impression compared to previous instalments.

The twelfth season of The Block premiered in August 2016. The season also made history with Julia and Sasha becoming the first female same-sex couple to compete on The Block, marking a notable milestone for the series.
Season 13, 2017 – Elsternwick

Returning to a once-a-year format, the series moved into new territory by building from the ground up for the first time, with the Elsternwick site on Regent Street transformed into a five-lot development. The shift in format brought a fresh challenge for contestants as they worked from bare land rather than renovating an existing structure.
Josh and Elyse were crowned winners of their season of The Block, going on to build on that success through their company J and E Projects. The pair have since established a strong reputation in the construction industry, with their business being recognised at the 2026 Master Builders Awards, where they took out Young Builder of the Year.
Ronnie and Georgia were standout personalities on The Block, known for their strong design approach and competitive edge, and they’ve returned to the series multiple times since their original season. Alongside their TV appearances, they’ve maintained a strong presence on social media, sharing their own home renovations, family life, and a range of brand partnerships that have kept them firmly in the public eye.
Season 14, 2018 – St Kilda
The fourteenth season of The Block saw the series take on the historic Gatwick Hotel in St Kilda, with producers lodging ambitious renovation plans with Port Phillip City Council. The iconic building provided a larger and more complex challenge, as contestants worked to transform the ageing hotel into modern apartments.

The fifteenth season of The Block saw the series take over the rundown Oslo Hotel in St Kilda, a former backpackers’ accommodation with a striking façade hiding five individual “mansions” within.
Mitch and Mark were discovered this season, where their bold, design-led approach and strong on-screen presence quickly made them one of the standout teams.
Andy and Deb brought a calm, collaborative energy, quickly earning a loyal following for their practical design approach and steady progress throughout the competition.
Season 16, 2020 – Brighton

The sixteenth season of The Block was set in the bayside suburb of Brighton on New Street, where five new homes were constructed from the ground up ahead of the 2020 season. Production was temporarily suspended in March due to the COVID-19 pandemic, before resuming in May under strict safety protocols.
The season also adapted to restrictions with a virtual open for inspection experience, before auctions were held in November. In the finale, Jimmy and Tam took out the win, with all teams achieving strong results and profits well over $400,000.
Season 17, 2021 – Hampton

Kirsty and Jesse were memorable contestants on The Block 2021, with a down-to-earth approach, strong teamwork and ambitious build. High school sweethearts from Wangi Wangi, they’ve continued to stay in the public eye through their Instagram following, where they share updates on their renovations, family life and ongoing creative projects, including their podcast and music work.
Season 18, 2022 – Gisborne

The Block, Tree Change, premiered in August 2022 and saw the series head into regional Victoria for the first time, with contestants transforming country homes in the Macedon Ranges on McGeorge Road in Gisborne.
Production faced an early setback due to COVID-19 delays and an early cast change, with Rachel and Ryan stepping in after the original couple exited shortly after filming began.
Rachel and Ryan Carr weren’t held back by their late start replacing Elle Ferguson and Joel Patfull. They were clearly meant for the renovating life all along as they’ve documented their South Coast holiday home on a TV series and their current renovation journey.
Tom and Sarah-Jane were memorable contestants on The Block: Tree Change, known for their competitive edge, strong work ethic and willingness to take on ambitious design risks. Since the show, they’ve maintained a public presence through social media, where they share updates on their family life, renovation projects and ongoing work in the property and construction space.
Season 19, 2023 – Hampton East

On this season, Marty Fox joined the judging panel in a guest capacity, stepping in for Neale Whitaker across parts of the season. Known for its strong personalities and heightened competition, the season delivered plenty of drama and design ambition as teams battled it out in another high-pressure renovation series.
Steph and Gian became record-breaking winners on The Block, setting new benchmarks with their standout result and polished, design-led approach. Since their win, they’ve returned to the series and also welcomed a baby, marking a new chapter in their life beyond the competition. They’ve continued to share their journey publicly, including their latest renovation project featured with Home Beautiful, further cementing their reputation in the design and renovation space.
Eliza and Liberty have made return appearances on the series and, in an exciting recent update, Eliza announced she is expecting a baby with sports presenter Clint Stanaway.
Since The Block, Leah and Ash have since sold their Queenslander renovation, which was widely praised for its character and design. They’ve continued working in property and sharing their renovation journey beyond the show.
Season 20, 2024 – Philip Island

The twentieth season of The Block premiered in August 2024 with significant fanfare, marking another major milestone for the long-running renovation series. Scott Cam and Shelley Craft returned as hosts, with Dan Reilly stepping into the role of site foreman as Keith Schleiger stepped back from full-time duties.
The judging panel also saw a change, with Shaynna Blaze and Darren Palmer returning alongside Marty Fox, who replaced Neale Whitaker. Set on Phillip Island, the season continued the show’s tradition of high-stakes builds and strong competition.
Courtney and Grant have since welcomed a baby and are currently renovating their family home, continuing their journey in property and design beyond The Block while sharing updates on family life and their latest renovation project.
Ricky from The Block later entered a relationship with the show’s make-up artist, Erin Lee, with the pair going public after filming wrapped and sharing their life together on social media.
Kylie and Brad finished their The Block season with their relationship a little uncertain, and have kept things fairly quiet publicly since then, which left some followers unsure about where they stood. In a surprise update, Kylie recently announced the arrival of baby number five, prompting renewed interest in the couple’s status as they continue their family journey out of the spotlight.

The twenty-first season of The Block, filmed in Daylesford and premiering in July 2025, arrived with plenty of fanfare but ultimately delivered one of the franchise’s most talked-about auction results.
Em and Ben have since welcomed a baby and sold their family home, moving on to a new chapter focused on family life. They’ve also started another renovation project, continuing to share their journey in property and design beyond the show.
Britt and Taz have since begun a new renovation journey, which they’re actively documenting as they continue building and designing in their own style beyond the show.
Mat has since taken on a unique renovation project, restoring a church while continuing to build his profile in the property space. Robby has also shared personal updates, announcing the arrival of a second baby with his partner, marking a new chapter alongside his life beyond The Block.
