There aren’t many shows that are still filming 20 years on, so it’s understandable there are questions around how many more seasons The Block has in it. Now, insiders at Channel Nine have shared their insights into whether The Block will be back for another season. The short answer is, yes.
“We are very comfortable we’re going to see a couple more down the line,” confirmed Justin Sturzaker, executive producer at The Block when Home Beautiful visited the site for a sneak peek at the completed homes.
After 22 seasons, he says “we’re always trying to come up with new ideas”. This year, they’ve thrown a share-house into the mix. The teams are staying at the Mornington Peninsula home of former team Emma and Ben, which Justin hints will instigate some drama.
One of Channel Nine’s production supervisors also squashed any rumours that the ratings are dipping. “The numbers for The Block have gone up the last three seasons,” said Adrian Swift, head of unscripted.
It appears the budgets are still healthy, with major sponsors and suppliers including Freedom, Beacon Lighting and ABI Interiors. This year, there will also be a McCafe, mini Bunnings and a Chemist Warehouse on site for the teams to make use of.
Meanwhile, The Block continues to employ long-time contractors of the show such as the Cursio brothers, as well as other local trades. This year, the show is filming in Mount Eliza, and Adrian called it “bigger and better” than ever before, with the show spending $7 million in the local community. “The people of the Mornington Peninsula have really welcomed us,” he said.
So looks like we’ll still be hearing Scott Cam calling ‘Tools down’ in 2027. And, despite judge Marty Fox feeling burnt out, we hope he’ll be back too, with more suave fits.
