1. There’s no need to sand your chair, you can start painting straight away! Turn the chair upside down to make it easier to paint the legs. Don’t load your brush with too much paint or it will drip – it’s better to do two thinner coats.

2. Keep turning the chair so you don’t miss anything. Painting underneath the seat of the chair too gives it a more finished look.

3. Next, paint the spindles of the chair back. A little Chalk Paint® goes a long way so don’t overload your brush. Chairs always take longer to paint than you expect because they’re a little fiddly, so give yourself plenty of time and work systematically. Enjoy the process!

4. Turn the chair back onto its feet and paint anything remaining. The seat will definitely need two coats to withstand the extra wear.

5. Apply two coats of Clear Chalk Paint® Wax using a Small Chalk Paint® Wax Brush, allowing each coat to dry overnight. In a process known as curing, the wax starts to harden as the solvents evaporate. Curing takes between 5 and 21 days, depending on ambient temperature. Once cured, it will stand up to normal wear and tear.

6. Apply a strip of low-tack masking tape to the bottom of the chair legs to create a crisp line. Make the feet all the same height or experiment with different heights. Apply Annie Sloan Gilding Wax in Warm Gold with a Large Flat Detail Brush. Remove the masking tape when dry.
