NEED TO KNOW
- The solar eclipse in Leo on August 13 is the perfect time to start new creative projects around the home.
- A visual refresh is backed by Venus in Libra, as the planet of love and beauty moves into one of its home signs on August 7.
- As Mars enters Cancer on August 12, your drive towards home may spike, and nesting is high on the agenda.
- We welcome Virgo season on August 23, where attention turns away from creativity and play, and more towards health, wellness and refinement.
As we trudge into the last month of winter, the energy is ripe to set ourselves up for an exciting spring. Indeed, the first two weeks of August can be enjoyed in continued hibernation — closing old chapters, clearing out closets, and plotting how to hit the ground running around mid-month — because on August 13, a change is nigh! Why? It’s the Leo solar eclipse!
August’s new moon solar eclipse marks an important time for new beginnings. If you’ve been contemplating a fresh start – whether that’s in regard to a renovation, a big move, a new job or even a cosmetic room upgrade – now is the time to get the ball rolling.
While solar eclipses are thought to summon a surprise or two, this energy offers the impetus to begin a project and see it through to completion.
As we work through the remaining weeks of Leo season (July 22 to August 22), the sun-ruled zodiac sign wants you to lean into self-expression and play. Think: Painting your front door a dramatic new shade, trying out a new wallpaper, or investing in an artwork that makes your heart sing. Flex those creative muscles, and don’t be afraid to experiment with something bold. Virgo season rolls around on August 23, which offers the clarity you need to refine those bold ideas into something truly beautiful.
With Venus moving into the beauty-loving sign of Libra on August 7, your aesthetic sensibilities will feel the itch, too. My only warning is to resist leaning too heavily on trends. Think about how much you really love and need something before dropping mega cash on an item that will date before it even gets to your door.
With fiery Mars in the home-loving sign of Cancer, you may feel a final push to add some excitement to your home life. Nesting is high on the agenda on all fronts, so dust off the cobwebs and get creative as we skip towards spring.
Tip: If you know your rising sign, read that horoscope first before reaching for your sun or moon sign.

Aries horoscope (March 21 – April 19)
You could feel extra playful this month as the sun moves through your house of romance and creativity. If the winter blues are getting you down, treat yourself to something whimsical in your home space. Perhaps a vase of fresh flowers, or a new DIY project could be the perfect pick-me-up. Venus in Libra could up your already abundant charms, so why not host an intimate soiree where you can show off?

Taurus horoscope (April 20 – May 20)
The sun is shining on your home life this month, making you the definition of ‘house proud’. Use the first two weeks of August to get a jump on spring cleaning, and literally clear out anything that doesn’t make your heart sing. When the eclipse arrives on August 13, you’ll be primed to redecorate, renovate or build a new sanctuary reflective of your deepest desires.

Gemini horoscope (May 21 – June 20)
If you’ve been longing for some R&R, early August could be the perfect time for a mini escape. With the sun and Mercury in your sector of short journeys, a weekend getaway or staycation could provide enough stimulation to make you feel renewed. Don’t be surprised if the eclipse also has your feet itching for a change of scenery. When Virgo season arrives on the 23rd, you may feel the urge to get organised at home. This could mean buying a new digital calendar, or rearranging the pantry with some Pinterest-inspired storage solutions.

Cancer horoscope (June 21 – July 22)
With the sun and Jupiter blazing through your house of personal finances, you may find the tide turning on money troubles. Even if the dollars aren’t pouring in, keep an eye out for opportunities where you can show off your innate gifts and utilise your skills to your maximum benefit. The eclipse may illuminate what you value and what you need, so pay attention to any inklings that emerge around August 13. Meanwhile, with Venus dancing through your house of home and family, it’s a good time to beautify your haven with something lush.

Leo horoscope (July 23 – August 22)
It would be remiss of me not to send well wishes to any Leos with incumbent birthdays as we know how much you love celebrating your birthday month! It’s still your season until August 23, so make hay while the sun shines and treat yourself to something special for your home. (May we suggest a new chandelier moment to provide the drama and luminosity Leos are known for?) With the eclipse on August 13 you may feel the urge to spice up your entire look, to which we say, why not? It’s your time to shine! In the words of Home Beautiful editor Elle Lovelock: Show me a person’s wardrobe and I can tell you about their home. Are yours expressing who you really are?

Virgo horoscope (August 23 – September 22)
Your inclination towards hibernation will continue in early August until your birthday season arrives on August 23. Virgo season marks your annual reset, whereby you might feel invigorated to ‘rebrand’. First, however, you need to retreat indoors to prepare for your metamorphosis. During this time, your home should be equipped to offer a mental reset, bringing you maximum comfort and relaxation to explore your spiritual side. This may look like a luxe new blanket or a completely new colour palette – anything that evokes a sense of calm.

Libra horoscope (September 23 – October 22)
Your ruling planet is Venus, named for the Goddess of love and beauty. She is responsible for giving Librans their superior sense of style, and she’s heading back through your sign from August 7 to September 10. Venus famously ups your personal magnetism, so expect plenty of attention this month. With the eclipse also taking place in your realm of friendships, perhaps you’ll attract some new admirers or feel emboldened to broaden your network. Consider how your home can be made fit to entertain your new admirers. Perhaps a lush new home fragrance will up your charisma?

Scorpio horoscope (October 23 – November 21)
The eclipse in Leo may bring changes to your career – which we know can impact your home life. You may feel a pull beyond the home, which means your safe haven should be extra comfy for your return. Perhaps some new tech will help reduce the domestic load, freeing-up your time to be spent elsewhere. Think: A robot vacuum, coffee machine or perhaps an air fryer to speed up those weeknight dinners.

Sagittarius horoscope (November 22 – December 21)
Wanderlust is on the mind, am I right, Sagittarius? Whether you’re being beckoned by the European summer, or seduced by a tropical Sri Lankan escape, you’re ready for a change of scenery. (Not sure where to go? Let your interior style choose your next holiday destination!) If you find yourself stuck in one place, find something to feed that desire without having to leave your couch. A stunning coffee table book might transport you to your destination of choice, or a piece of fine art will provide the stimulation you’ve been craving. As the saying goes: Change is as good as a holiday. Consider how you can shake up your home to feed your mind.

Capricorn horoscope (December 22 – January 19)
Your natural inclination to share may be tested this month, with an eclipse in your house of intimate relationships and shared assets. That’s not to say you should close yourself off, but boundaries might be the answer you seek. Take time to yourself as needed (perhaps a wellness room could help you unwind?), and communicate clearly about household costs. Butting heads over a renovation or change on the home front? Strive for the beauty of compromise. Mars in your relationship sector has the power to ignite both passion or conflict: choose wisely!

Aquarius horoscope (January 20 – February 18)
In the mood for love, Aquarius? An eclipse is hitting your relationship sector, summoning potential new romantic interests to your life. Light some candles and feng shui your entrance, because someone special might come knocking on your door! Already have a partner? They might surprise you! With Venus in your travel house, the two of you should embark on a romantic getaway to make the most of winter’s cosy ambience. If you’re in a relationship that you’re not sure of, the solar eclipse on the 13th should bring some clarity to your situation.

Pisces horoscope (February 19 – March 20)
The sun is currently in your house of daily routines, which means it’s time to reflect on how you’ve been spending your days, and whether that’s conducive to the life you want to live. This doesn’t necessarily mean you have to move towards rigid scheduling, which we know isn’t really your thing, Pisces. However, with winter still scratching at our doors, perhaps you’ve been missing some much-needed time in nature. Could this be remedied by a quaint kitchen garden or house plant to tend? On the other hand, you may be eager to get back into an exercise routine, in which case dust off the yoga mat or spruce the home gym — it’s time to get moving!
