The Block 2026 guest bedroom reveals have officially kicked off the new season, and if week one is anything to go by, this year’s contestants are embracing quiet luxury and layered neutrals over bold colour and trend-driven decorating.
It feels like a noticeable shift. Rather than trying to shock the judges, most teams leaned into calm, timeless interiors… and for the most part, it worked.
Some teams delivered spaces with genuine emotional impact, while others created bedrooms that, although beautiful, felt a little anonymous. Others missed the mark completely, according to the judges. And, the first room reveal will earn the winner more than just $10 thousand dollars. It’s the house decider challenge, too.
During these reveals, regular judge Darren Palmer was replaced with Alice Stolz, Domain’s National Property Editor.
We’re breaking down every result from the very first reveal, sharing what we loved, and revealing what we’d change.
Winners: Courtney and Sev
Their score: 26/30 🥇
Courtney and Sev’s room design felt like a sigh of relief for the judges. “Now we’re talking,” said Marty Fox. “This is really engaging your senses.”
“These guys are thinking outside of the box,” agreed Shaynna Blaze. “This is so different from anything we’ve seen in the other houses,” said Alice. “10/10 for the effort and risk.”
If quiet luxury is the inspiration for this season, Courtney and Sev understood the assignment best. This room feels expensive without relying on expensive-looking objects. Instead, it’s the architectural decisions that elevate it. The ruched wall bedhead behind the bed steals the show.
The sweeping curved timber ceiling immediately draws your eye upwards, making what isn’t actually a huge bedroom feel generous and considered. These details give the room personality without shouting. The tonal palette creates exactly what a guest bedroom should: somewhere guests instantly want to unwind.

Details we’d change…
The colour palette is very safe. A single unexpected artwork or statement piece could have pushed it into unforgettable territory.

Second: Adam and Jolene
Their score: 22/30 🥈
Adam and Jolene’s guest bedroom was ranked second with the judges scoring. While they didn’t love it as much as Courtney and Sev’s room, Shaynna praised their “beautiful attention to detail,” while Marty thinks they played it ‘safe’ from a real estate perspective. Alice questioned whether it had enough things that were ‘interesting.’
Adam and Jolene delivered one of the most balanced bedrooms of the night. There’s warmth here that many neutral interiors struggle to achieve. The rust accents, sculptural lighting and oversized artwork prevent the room from becoming another beige box.
The only thing stopping this room climbing higher is that it feels a touch familiar. It’s beautifully executed, but doesn’t quite have the memorable design moment that separates great rooms from winning ones.

Details we’d change…
The styling chair feels slightly disconnected from the rest of the room and the artwork could have been hung a little lower to better anchor the space.
Home Beautiful rating: ★★★½
Third: Chantel and Wyatt
Their score: 20/30 🥉
Unfortunately for Chantel and Wyatt, leaning into traditional styling was the wrong move. “The room simply isn’t hitting the brief,” all judges agreed.
“This would be Mt Eliza 35-years-ago,” said Shaynna. “This is beyond vanilla.”
“It really doesn’t match the facade whatsoever,” said Marty of the timber wall panelling. “I feel deeply distressed by this,” Alice agreed. “And it makes me feel as though they haven’t thought about the buyer.”
This is perhaps the most timeless room of the bunch. But that might be its biggest downfall. The layered bedding is gorgeous and the classic wall mouldings are lovely, but, as the judges have relayed, it doesn’t match the brief, house facade, or neighbourhood.

Details we’d change…
The artwork feels undersized for the wall and a stronger lighting feature could have added personality. While the wall panelling is beautiful, it isn’t right for the house.

Fourth: Lisa and Rosco
Their score: 19.5/30
Lisa and Roscoe gave it their all, but unfortunately, confused design decisions landed them second last with judging. Of their wall niche, Marty couldn’t stand that it wasn’t straight. “It’s so bizarre that it’s not straight,” he said. “It doesn’t work at all. I hate it.. It feels a bit tryhard.” Shaynna admired the “beautiful textures” but said the materials brought it down.
Lisa and Rosco delivered arguably the boldest design of the night — and we appreciate that they took a risk. However, it didn’t exactly land with the judges. The blush Venetian-style walls create warmth and texture, and the round niche is a fun architectural detail. However, the execution failed them.
The room falls slightly short at cohesion. There are several competing features—the textured walls, feature niche, artwork and panelling—that fight for attention rather than working together.

Simplifying a couple of the feature elements would allow the craftsmanship to shine even more.

Last: Rick and Tayla
Their score: 17/30
Father-daughter duo landed in last place for the guest bedroom design. “The furniture is far too big for the space,” said Marty “It’s all squished. It’s a terrible room. You’re in a competition and this is what you’ve produced.”
“There is no buyer. This doesn’t sell,” Marty hammered in. “It’s void of life.” Alice agreed. “I don’t think these guys are worthy of The Block.” Thankfully, the Freedom wardrobes provided some relief. “The wardrobe. I’m loving the beautiful timber,” said Shaynna.
Rick and Tayla embraced quiet luxury more than any other team, but their proportions were off. The curved winged bed, matching armchair are gorgeous, but they’re too big for the room. There’s little to tell us about the personality of the homeowners, and while minimalism can be incredibly successful, this room borders on feeling more display suite than dream home.

The room needs one stronger focal point—whether that’s artwork, texture or colour—to create a more memorable first impression.
